| “ | Ultimately, Agents of Fortune is a solid record, albeit a startling one for fans of the band's earlier sound. It also sounds like one of restless inspiration, which is, in fact, what it turned out to be given the recordings that came after. It turned out to be the Cult's last consistent effort until they released Fire of Unknown Origin in 1981. - Thom Jurek/AMG (4.5/5 Stars) | ” |
Agents of Fortune is the fourth studio album released by Blue Öyster Cult, originally released in a gatefold sleeve in 1976.
The platinum selling album peaked at #29 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart, while the single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" peaked at #12 on the Pop Singles chart, making it Blue Öyster Cult's biggest hit.
The band also became a larger concert attraction at this time - largely based on not only their stageshow, but aided by the airplay of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" which to this day is a staple of FM rock station playlists. Concert venues became larger, the show became more intricate and BOC was reaching it's financial peak on the tour circuit.

Does anyone have good or hires rips of any previous Blue Oyster albums??
I have the MFSL disc of BOC/T&M, would love to get a good Secret Treaties and even On your feet or on your knees live album released in '75 or so...
Thank you, :) p
PBTHAL did rips of BOC, Tyranny, and Secret Treaties. Tyranny in particular is one of my all time favorites. Perhaps he might repost his earlier rips in hi-res.
@perlerorneq69, in addition to what redpop350 mentioned, PBTHAL also did these all in redbook:
Cultosaurus Erectus (PBTHAL Vinyl Rip 2011)
Secret Treaties (Quad) (PBTHAL Vinyl Rip 2010)
The Revolution By Night (RL) (PBTHAL Vinyl Rip 2010)
Tyranny And Mutation (Quad) (PBTHAL Vinyl Rip 2010)
And I posted Imaginos (1988) [CBS Records FC 40618] 24-bit 96kHZ vinyl rip last year here.
I have On Your Feet, not sure when I'll get around to posting though...
@pbthal: FWIW, I've been pretty happy with your Secret Treaties redbook n/d (needledrop). Can't wait to see how your new rip is an improvement, though!
Nobody comes even CLOSE to the true audiophile quality of PBTHAL rips :))))))
Dude would hardly be calling Aksman an amatuer.......
Shame.
@LivinLarge
+1 but Badger was a groundbreaker and some find it difficult to dismiss that, personally I agree with PB himself that the more skilled droppers around the better for us audiophile geeks...
