Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Vinyl rip in 24-bit/19kHz (presented in 24/96 & 16/44.1) | FLAC | m3u, cue & Tech Log
Artwork | DR Analysis | 750 / 225 mb incl. recovery | FSonic, FF & HF | Rock | 1968
Atlantic LP (German repress from the late 70's) / Cat.#: ATL 40 022
Mastered @ Strawberry Mastering, London

The entire record still stands as the group's definitive album, especially since this is the only place the full-length title track is available.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is the second studio album by the American rock band Iron Butterfly, released in 1968. It is most known for the title track, a simple composition which, due to an extended jam, occupies the whole of Side B. The album is also available in a deluxe edition CD.

The In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida LP peaked at #4 on the Billboard charts and was given the distinction of being the first album to be awarded platinum status when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) began that achievement level in 1976. Today it is a multi-platinum album with sales of over 25 million copies. It was also Atlantic Records' biggest selling album until it was surpassed by Led Zeppelin IV.

Personal Note

With my vinyl transfers, I try to catch the whole beauty of vinyl records; therefore I don't use any post-processing or any sound improvement. What you get is a clear and flat transfer. For getting a clear sound, I'll do an extended washing of each record with my RCM, which can take up to 30 minutes brushing on each side. Resistant ticks and clicks I try to remove as good as possible, but the priority is not to lose any musical information in the process. Surface noises, as long they are not too high, are left in place. Only on bad pressings or on records recorded at extremely low levels do I use a fade in-/-out. As John Peel said, "Life is full of surface noises." In some cases this means that I have to make a compromise.... The result has to pass my personal quality criteria, which is IMO quite high.

"...especially since this is the only place the full-length title track is available" isn't actually true Mr Erlewine.

You confirm this yourself within your 'review' of Iron Butterfly Live where you say "Iron Butterfly Live is noteworthy for its second side, which contains a 20-minute version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Even though it's only three minutes longer than the original version, it's three times as tedious."

Eh? Why review the live album when you didn't even like the studio one? It never stood a chance.

On to more positive matters - thank you aksman for ripping this EXCELLENT Iron Butterfly album with its AMAZING ICONIC TITLE TRACK (but only if you like this kinda thing k... and remember... this was the 60's man)!!!

There... that's better lol

@ The Purple Parrot

I quoted Stephen Thomas Erlewines review of this studio album... (http://www.allmusic.com/album/in-a-gadda-da-vida-r9898)
According to legend, the group was so stoned when they recorded the track that they could neither pronounce the title "In the Garden of Eden" or end the track, so it rambles on for a full 17 minutes, which to some listeners sounds like eternity. But that's the essence of its appeal -- it's the epitome of heavy psychedelic excess, encapsulating the most indulgent tendencies of the era.

As you see, no word of a 20 Minute live version.

I've been waiting for this one to be made, and what better than aksman, thanks a lot

@aksman - I wasn't referring to the fact that you quoted his review, but rather to the contents of his actual reviews. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. The reference to a 20 minute live version is in his review of 'Iron Butterfly Live' found here http://www.allmusic.com/album/iron-butterfly-live-r9894 where you will see he also got the length of the track wrong.

I first heard the live version when we went to some friend's for a night of what turned out to be acid laced entertainment. They knew we were very familiar with Gadda and hadn't told us that they'd got the just released live album. Mid trip he put the album on and the differences sent our heads spinning lol. You probably had to be there :D

Thank you for another great rip. I have the original CD and the Rhino remastered CD, and neither of them sound as good as the LP. The remaster was compressed, maximized, and suffers from clipping. The original CD is tinny and blah. Thanks for restoring this gem!

Personally, I do not like too much the sound of this vinyl. I prefer the vinyl rip (ATCO Records 1968) which appeared some time ago in Demonoid by the user TheZeitung. It has a warmer sound and velvety. IMO, eh.

Thank You very much, Aksman!
Love this LP from '73, have a good dozen of copies and a

Its easy to make fun of this album- In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida goes on-&-on like that endlessly ringing telephone in Sergio Leone's "Once Upon A Time In America'.
but if we looked with disdain on everything that was dated we'd have an emptier world.
That beign said,dated or not,this is a F&*k*ng Great Album...not good,not very good...GRRRRREAT!
Timelss riffs.
I've not seen a vinyl rip (& no 1st pressing rip of ANY I.B. album ever.
I'm still keeping my Jap remaster, which sounds mighter good...but this one goes on my iPod.
If by any chance you run across vinyls of their other albums(Heavy,Ball,Metamorphosis,Live)...you or the Doctor...1st press or not, they would ne heavily desired.
