Unlike most sequels, Time Further Out is a worthy successor to Time Out. Among the numbers introduced on this impressive set are "It's a Raggy Waltz" and "Unsquare Dance" (the latter an ancestor of Don Ellis's "Pussy Wiggle Stomp"). The selections, which range in time signatures from 5/4 to 9/8, are handled with apparent ease (or at least not too much difficulty) by pianist Brubeck, altoist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello on this near-classic.
- Scott Yanow/AMG

Time Further Out is a 1961 release by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. It features the "Classic Quartet": pianist Dave Brubeck, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, bassist Eugene Wright, and drummer Joe Morello. The album was recorded by engineer Fred Plaut and produced by Teo Macero.

Overview

Time Further Out continues the Dave Brubeck Quartet's exploration of unusual time signatures that began on their 1959 album Time Out. The tracks are ordered by the number of beats per bar, starting with "It's a Raggy Waltz" and "Bluette" in 3/4, "Charles Matthew Hallelujah" in 4/4, "Far More Blue" and "Far More Drums" in 5/4, "Maori Blues" in 6/4, "Unsquare Dance" in 7/4, "Bru's Boogie Woogie" in 8/8, and concluding with "Blue Shadows in the Street" in 9/4. The time signatures are listed on the album's cover, where they are incorrectly referred to as "tempos". Like Time Out, Time Further Out's cover features a work of modern art: a painting by Spanish artist Joan Miró.

Personal Note

With my vinyl transfers, I try to catch the whole beauty of vinyl records; therefore I don't use any post-processing or any sound improvement. What you get is a clear and flat transfer. For getting a clear sound, I'll do an extended washing of each record with my RCM, which can take up to 30 minutes brushing on each side. Resistant ticks and clicks I try to remove as good as possible, but the priority is not to lose any musical information in the process. Surface noises, as long they are not too high, are left in place. Only on bad pressings or on records recorded at extremely low levels do I use a fade in-/-out. As John Peel said, "Life is full of surface noises." In some cases this means that I have to make a compromise.... The result has to pass my personal quality criteria, which is IMO quite high.

I clicked on the RS link (I have a premium account) and got a message the the file doesn't exist 404.

It takes me to the newly re-designed RS site and shows that I'm logged in.

Any suggestions?

@ByGijS
Read some postings before this, there are some solutions mentioned, it's an RS thing... (html5 & rss3)

I saw nothing in this thread that addressed the problem.

Could you please be more specific or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

@ sgallagheav

Others report success after enabling java script (if disabled). Also FireFox and Chrome seem to work.

For me, the RS linklist appears, after a few seconds, using Firefox 3.6.10

jDownloader only works if you can SEE the links and only after highlighting all links and pasting. jDownloader can NOT resolve the URL's. Plus you need the latest update just to get that to work. I for one will be going back to separate click-able links

Many thanks Aksman. Great album and superb sound as usual.

BTW surprised no-one has picked this up, but it's not Micro Reflections, it's Miro Reflections. The cover features a painting by Spanish modern artist Joan Miró.

Beautiful, aksman. I've actually just gotten into Brubeck lately. From what I've heard so far, Time Further Out has been my favorite. So it's nice to have this in a well ripped vinyl.

Thanks for your work.

New Brubeck Reissue - Time Further Out: Miro Reflections on 180g Vinyl LP (Impex)

8 June 2010

"... Just listened to this new reissue, one of my favorite Brubeck albums. I like it at least as much as "Time Out" and maybe more. This is another of Brubeck's experiments in different time signatures. Some absolutely beautiful melodies here. And Joe Morello's drums on several tracks like "Far More Drums" will give you chills.

This is an Impex release,put together by some of the old Cisco team, I believe. Mastering by George Marino at Sterling and pressed at RTI.. Great job on both counts. Sounds as good as my six-eye. Record jackets are the tip-ons as used by Classic If you like Brubeck, don't pass on this one. ..."

----

One of my all time favorite albums! The title "Miro Reflections" refers to the Miro painting on the cover which includes several random numbers. Dave used all of these numbers in time signatures on the record! Great stuff!

----

The one thing that I will say once again that Impex is pretty much run by the old Cisco guys so believe it or not the packaging is similar. Both Cisco Aja and Impex Time Further out has:

* Same-style Japanese cover sleeve
* Same-style cover sticker (Aja saids Cisco while Time Further Out saids Impex)
* Same-style limited edition sticker on the back of the LP cover

      > "Does Impex use the Columbia 6 eye label or 2 eye?"

Six-Eye label with a small CBS text on the Studio Fidelity arrow. Just on top of the Columbia at the bottom of the label says 1961 Sony Music Entertainment, or something along those lines.

----

So, are we getting to the conclusion that the original master tape was not used for this reissue, since some report that the distortion is not on the original vinyl....
