Elvis Costello & the Attractions - Armed Forces
Mobile Fidelity MFSL 1-331 180g LP
Half-speed mastered by Shawn R. Britton

Vinyl rip in 24-bit/192kHz (converted to 24/96 & 16/44.1) | FLAC | cue, m3u & Tech Log
Artwork | 800 / 240 mb incl. recovery | Rapidshare & FileFactory | Rock | 1979

Rated by Michael Fremer: Music 9/11 | Sound: 9/11

I have all of the CD reissues from Ryko to Rhino and this new 180g version beats them and even the original UK pressing, though that gives this some competition since it was cut from a fresh tape.
Reissuing Armed Forces in high quality 180g all analog vinyl is a public service in my opinion, even though Mobile Fidelity couldn’t possibly go to the time and expense of reproducing the original’s fold-open graphics and post card inserts.

Armed Forces is Elvis Costello's third album, his second with the Attractions, and the first to officially credit the Attractions on the cover. It was released in the UK by Radar Records and in the U.S. by Columbia in 1979. The American version deleted "Sunday's Best" and substituted Costello's version of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding," which had been released the previous November as the B-side of Nick Lowe's "American Squirm" single, at the end of side two. The album originally had the working title Emotional Fascism.

Initial pressings of the album in the UK and U.S. included a promotional three-song single, Live at Hollywood High, which was recorded on June 4, 1978. The live tracks, also produced by Nick Lowe, are "Accidents Will Happen," "Alison," and "Watching the Detectives". The UK edition also included 4 postcards featuring pictures of the band.

In 2000 Q magazine placed Armed Forces at number 45 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. In 2003, the album was ranked number 482 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Personal Note

With my vinyl transfers, I try to catch the whole beauty of vinyl records; therefore I don't use any post-processing or any sound improvement. What you get is a clear and flat transfer. For getting a clear sound, I'll do an extended washing of each record with my RCM, which can take up to 30 minutes brushing on each side. Resistant ticks and clicks I try to remove as good as possible, but the priority is not to lose any musical information in the process. Surface noises, as long they are not too high, are left in place. Only on bad pressings or on records recorded at extremely low levels do I use a fade in-/-out. As John Peel said, "Life is full of surface noises." In some cases this means that I have to make a compromise.... The result has to pass my personal quality criteria, which is IMO quite high.

Oh dude, great up man...wohoo can't wait to hear it in hirez.

A heads up on a couple of useful link handling tools for other users.

I've been using a couple of firefox addons for quite some time that makes gathering the links into J Downloader
or any other app you may use a little simpler.

It's called Link Gopher, you can get it here.

http://sites.google.com/site/linkgopher/

It sits down in the status bar, and you right click it and choose extract links by filter. Say I was wanting the
Filefactory links, I can just type in Fact as the filter and it opens up a new page with the links exposed to copy.

For rapidshare links I've used the addon called "Unofficial Rapidshare Tool" for a couple of years, it extracts the
links right on the page in the post even if they are clickable text Links and validates them at the same time + other
cool features. You can find it here, I couldn't find it on the Firefox addons site any longer or the developers homepage

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Firefox-Extensions/Unofficial-RapidShare-Tool-45670.shtml

Oh and look up an addon called Linkification, it turns plain text urls into clickable links in firefox, like the urls I
posted in this comment show as red clickable links...quicker than copying and pasting or higlighting and dragging to the
tabs bar.

Thank you.

P.S. Flashgot add-on of Firefox works nicely with RS premium downloads.

znkp,

I have the flashgot plugin for JDownloader but never used it, I do use flashgot for things like youtube vids and such sometimes.

But after you posted that, I was curious, so I looked at the flashgot options and saw that I could point it to JDownloader,
and if I highlighted the filefactory links and right clicked on an area other than a single link there was an option to flashgot selection.
That sent all the links straight to JDownloader...nice tip, thanks. And after looking closer at the options, if I checked show in context
menu, jdownloader shows in the flashgot right click context menu too, I like it, probably can make a keyboard shortcut too.

Thanks for the tip.

Great album, great ripper! Thanks aksman.

Quote of the morning is Elvis Costello on the track "Busy Bodies": "Promiscuity wears you out."

Many thanks for sharing this Aksman.
Well, I compared it to another vinyl transfer, and my domestic CD issue, and first thing I noticed was the right channel Bias.
I noticed and commented on this issue in one of your SRVaughan transfers you done , also.
I listen to headphones exclusively .
Could anyone else try on headphones to tell me I'm not going mad.
