Sony 180g 2-LP-Set / Cat.#: 88697 36921 1

This is all muscular, melodic modern rock, the kind that Foo Fighters almost patented, and if their consistency has occasionally made their albums blend together, it does result in one strong hits collection.
- Stephen Thomas Erlewine/AMG (4/5 Stars)

Greatest Hits is a compilation album released by the Foo Fighters on November 3, 2009. It contains two new songs, "Wheels" and "Word Forward" as well as previously released songs such as "The Pretender", "All My Life", "Learn to Fly", "Best of You", "Times Like These", "My Hero", "Everlong" and more.

"Wheels" is the first single taken from the album, which premiered on radio on September 23, 2009. The single was officially released on September 29, 2009. "Wheels" and "Word Forward", which was written for Dave Grohl's friend, Jimmy, who had recently died, were recorded specifically for the compilation with producer Butch Vig.

Personal Note

With my vinyl transfers, I try to catch the whole beauty of vinyl records; therefore I don't use any post-processing or any sound improvement. What you get is a clear and flat transfer. For getting a clear sound, I'll do an extended washing of each record with my RCM, which can take up to 30 minutes brushing on each side. Resistant ticks and clicks I try to remove as good as possible, but the priority is not to lose any musical information in the process. Surface noises, as long they are not too high, are left in place. Only on bad pressings or on records recorded at extremely low levels do I use a fade in-/-out. As John Peel said, "Life is full of surface noises." In some cases this means that I have to make a compromise.... The result has to pass my personal quality criteria, which is IMO quite high.

Thank god. There's surprisingly little high-res Foo Fighters, and their cds are heavily compressed. I'd be thrill if you'd do more, but in the meantime, kudos.

Dear Aksman,

your job is amazing. Your vinyl rip sounds really great. The CD of this one has some distortions. So thank you very much for that one. Really cool. Best, Kike.
