Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band - Uptight (1967)
Vinyl Rip @ 16bits/44kHz | FLAC | no m3u, cue, or log | LP Artwork.
Orig Stereo Issue New Zealand, 1967 | Marble Arch MALS 1162 | Ex.

Recorded LIVE as Geno should always be! - BURN GAPLESS.
.

This, IMHO, is THE Geno album to have, recorded live, as Geno & the Ram Jam Band should always be. Really, it has EVERYTHING, from the 'hip' MC-ing of Dave Cash (in an almost laughably broad North American drawl) to a manically hysterical audience (hand-clappin', foot-stompin', yelps, screams, orgasms(?!), etc). It's a perfect vinyl 'time-capsule' of the British soul movement in full bloom & a window into the beginnings of Northern Soul (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_soul).

The band are in TOP form, typically tighter than a duck's a@se & the perfect foil for the man himself. Well, a crooner he ain't - he's debatably not even a singer - but Geno IS 100% sweat, soul & charisma.

One listen & you'll understand why Kevin Rowland was / is such a believer!

IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ: This is my 1st post & a small 'thank-you' to the Avax community for all the pleasure you've given me - time for me to give something back :o)

The circumstances of this rip were not easy. Firstly, I live far from home in a large Central European city, far from my record collection & any ripping equipment. Secondly, I'm not a speaker of the native language. Nonetheless, I managed to make myself understood well enough in a local audiophile equipment retailer - the result being a rip done by some high-end equipment, then mastered to CD by a nearby sound studio. All of this was not free but I can't complain about the result.

My apologies for not offering this rip at 24bits/96kHz or any specific equipment details & post rip processing info - I just paid my money, took a chance & was given a CD which I now offer to you here. Please accept what I have here in the spirit it is given. When I return to my homeland & my precious vinyl then I will certainly offer more 'gems' to you, my Avax friends.

Take care & thanks again!

Jeez, talk about a great blast from the past! I'll have to definitely give it a try because I don't think this baby ever made it to CD...and my old vinyl copy is in really bad shape. Thanks!

@ everyone.
You are all very welcome! PLEASE give me some constructive feedback so I can make future posts better (though do read the "IMPORTANT-PLEASE NOTE" above re. the rip itself).

@ son-of-albion
For sure, more from me in the future - I have 3 of Geno's others, also in orig vinyl: "Shake a Tail Feather, Baby", "Running Wild" & "Sifters, Shifters, Finger Clicking Mamas". They won't be posted in the very near future, but they WILL be posted sometime if there is enough interest & I can source a decent turntable.

@ spielmaster
As far as I know almost NOTHING from Geno's 60's catalogue made it to CD - for sure this didn't. Thankfully, my vinyl copy is in nice condition so this fact doesn't matter too much.
