| “ | Generally, the fully developed songs are among the finest of Pink Floyd's later work, but The Wall is primarily a triumph of production: its seamless surface, blending melodic fragments and sound effects, makes the musical shortcomings and questionable lyrics easy to ignore. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine/AMG (4.5/5 Stars) | ” |
The Wall is the eleventh studio album by English progressive rock group Pink Floyd. Released as a double album on 30 November 1979, it was subsequently performed live with elaborate theatrical effects, and adapted into a feature film, Pink Floyd—The Wall.
As with the band's previous three studio albums The Wall is a concept album, and deals largely with themes of abandonment and personal isolation. It was first conceived during the band's 1977 In the Flesh Tour, when bassist and lyricist Roger Waters's frustration with the spectators' perceived boorishness became so acute that he imagined building a wall between the performers and audience. The album is a rock opera that centres on Pink, a character based on Waters or maybe Syd Barrett. Pink's life experiences begin with the loss of his father during the Second World War, and continue with ridicule and abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother and finally, the breakdown of his marriage. All contribute to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall.
The Wall features a notably harsher and more theatrical style than Pink Floyd's previous releases. Keyboardist Richard Wright left the band during the album's production but remained as a salaried musician, performing with Pink Floyd during The Wall Tour. Commercially successful upon its release, the album was one of the best selling of 1980, and as of 1999, it had sold over 23 million RIAA certified units (11.5 million albums) in the United States. Rolling Stone magazine placed The Wall at number 87 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Thanks aksman for this up
Thanks aksman. I will download it when my earphones return from maintemamce mid-january...
I've been away so thanks for this and all the late postings, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year Aksman
I don't know if this is PF's best or worst album according to the critics and don't really care. It's the one I listened to the most and brings back a lot of good memories from that period.
After comparing MANY different versions of this album I finally settled on the Sony Japan vinyl.
I'm hoping this first press master will be MY definitive version.
Looking forward to Run Like Hell, Goodbye Blue Sky and the aforementioned masterpiece, thank you very much.
Thanks Aksman for the great Job of refreshing the good old memories.
but I'm pretty sure there's something wrong in this rip..it runs slow (listen to the first seconds of hey you) in comparison to my others sources..
I find it's quite dark sounding too.
anyone else noted these issues?
thank you again btw!
I tested and setted the speed of the Bergmann TT with highest possible care. I used 2 methods for setup the correct speed.
Method one is the measurement with a stroboscope disc. I hjave 2 dufferent ones, one from ProJect (called "Strobe-It") wich is a 12" disc and another one from Ortofon wich has the size of record label. Both discs have 50 & 60 Hz markers for 33.3 & 45 rpm and I also a 50 & 60Hz switchable Strobelight from Ortofon. With that equipment I can check the speed either with a running record or without.
The 2nd method I used is an APP called "PlatterSpeed", installed on my iPad. This APP comes with a record that have a sinus tone of 3150 Hz. When the APP is started it measure the signal through the inbuild microphone of the iPad. This allow a perfect setting of the speed.
Both methods show an identical correct result.
Out of my own experience and check of many turntables I know that nearly all are running to fast. Most of them didn't have an opportunity to do an adjustment.
Finally I'am sure that there aren't much turntables where the speed is adjusted with that much care.
I've compared this rip with other ones I have and I can't appreciate any difference about the run speed. BUT this Japan pressing sounds a little downtuned for me (or dark sounding as you said) and this peculiarity can cause the illusion of slow speed, especially if you listen it right after other source (what happened to me too). Not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, after a few listens this one sounds more pleasant to my ears than any previous rip I have.
Regards! :)
once again thank you for the effort, will try to download it but since filesonic is gone...
@obukhov.gena: I don't want to be harsh, but comparing EMU ADC to Benchmark is like comparing VW Golf to Nissan GTR... both are cars. Of course you can have leather seating in Golf, but you'll end up driving just that...a golf. Get a clue about Musical EQ first. So much for your 'superior' TITURA rip...
