Like their previous Mendelssohn release on BIS (The Complete Concertos), the Amsterdam Sinfonietta under the baton of Lev Markiz returns for another SACD filled with more than four hours of Mendelssohn's music, this time, the complete string symphonies. Listeners should once again be aware that this SACD is not, as most are nowadays, a hybrid disc capable of being played on any CD player. If you don't have an SACD player, you will not be able to listen to this album; this is a perplexing decision on the part of BIS, as a non-SACD alternative is not offered. If you can listen to it, though, you're in luck. For starters, the album is packed with more than four hours of music for barely more than the cost of a single CD. Mendelssohn's 13 string symphonies were written between the incredibly young ages of 11 and 15. They are an incredibly revealing portrait of Mendelssohn's dramatic and rapid development from compositions reliant on imitation to a voice all his own. The Amsterdam Sinfonietta's performances of these early but by no means juvenile works are impeccably clean and vibrant, creating enough fresh interest from one symphony to the next to keep listeners rapt for the full duration of the album. Sound quality throughout the album is pristinely clear, with every note audible as if you're sitting amongst the musicians as they play.

Netload is unusable with jdownloader, frequent disconnects so file doesn't finish. Please use rapidshare for now.

Many thanks evaristegalois !

It should be added to the information that this SACD does not feature high resolution recordings.

The BIS label chose to use the single layer SACD format to put more than 4 hours of 16bit/44kHz recordings (from the early to mid 90's) on a single disc, instead of reissuing them on a multiple disc CD set.

BiS House sound is quite unique.
Spectral analysis of even genuine hi res recordings still show little or almost zero content above 20khz and alomost nothing up to minus 98 db.Very similair to CD.
You can check this out for yourselves using any program.
I would then suggest you use the correct spectrogram style ie like a mountain range, as the multicoloured graph is misleading as it does not show an adequate representation of signal level.ie you can just about observe spikes going into the ultrasonic range and these may be signals or noise at minus 110db.
I also do not think this item is hi rez and should not have been listed.

You're right MiniBic. I mess up the specifications. My apologies.

@ evaristegalois

Thank you this looks like a nice album.
Thank you for making the 16/44.1 plain to see.
Over 4 hours of Mendelssohn, the Complete String Symphonies, all in one sitting!
I'll make a flask of tea and a plate of sandwiches and settle down to enjoy a full half day of this at some point.

I'll pop back when you have RS option available.

Really excellent sound! Is not hi-res but it is on SA-CD. Please keep list SA-CD rips here (easier to find for us as there is no folder for this kind of releases on avaxhome). Thank you very much evaristegalois!
