After the death of founding member and bassist Allen Woody, Gov't Mule considered breaking up. Instead, remaining members Warren Haynes and Matt Abts recorded several songs with bass players admired by Woody. The Deep End, Volume 1, issued in 2001, was the first CD of material released from these sessions.

Originally, The Deep End, Volume 1 was released with a bonus disc called Hidden Treasures which featured live performances by the "New School of Gov't Mule" (Haynes, Abts, bassist Dave Schools, and keyboardist Chuck Leavell).

The Deep End, Volume 2 was released a year later.

Ripping Note

For the first time on vinyl, the sound beats the CD clearly with greater dynamics, clarity and a better balanced stage.
The pressing was okay. The gaps between the tracks are sometimes a little bit noisy...
Beside that there is nothing to complain.
