Paul Revere & The Raiders - The Spirit Of 67
1967 | Rock | No art, cue or log | Flac | 656MB
Mono Vinyl | Stereo Rip (not a fold down)
Ultimate Raiderlicious Master Edition
Multi/Megaupload

I have two mono copies of this album. Both have the same matrix number. One is stamped and the other isn't. The one that isn't also says "360 Sound" the other doesn't. This is the "360 Sound" pressing.

I've been wanting to give the SAS stylus a torture test on a mono source to check it for imaging and sibilance. I think it acquitted itself quite well. Nothing in life (or vinyl) is perfect but I couldn't ask for anything more given the condition of this wax. The fold down was quieter but boring as hell so I decided to release the "dirty" copy.

I saw the Raiders live around 1965 in Detroit Michigan and they kicked the crap out of The Beach Boys. I don't know if they play their own instruments on this album but they did in person like dogs bite mailmen.

Note: I got sick Christmas day and my right ear is still plugged up. I had to balance these channels by looking at the waveform and meters. My headphone amp has a mono switch and the image is stable when I use it but if this skews badly to one channel or another please let me know and I'll re-balance it when my head clears. Thanks!

One of the most popular and entertaining groups of the 1960s, Paul Revere & the Raiders enjoyed seven years of serious chart action, and during their three biggest years (1966-1969), sold records in numbers second only to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. And their hits "Steppin' Out," "Just Like Me," "Hungry," "Him or Me-What's It Gonna Be," and "Kicks," in particular, are now seen by compilers as bold, unpretentious pieces of '60s rock & roll with a defiant, punk edge. - all music.

tubert says: The Raiders were kicking ass in 1966 releasing three solid hit-packed rockin' albums. Just Like Us! Midnight Ride and The Spirit of '67. In time I'll be ripping all three. Some in stereo, some in mono and some in both. Enjoy!

One of my favorite bands of the era! If you have the first recording (I think it's just named after the band), please post it for potential fans (I have a beat up mono copy). And, if you can, scan in the great "history of the band" story on the back.

Thank you!!

@rduke13. The first "official" Raiders LP on Columbia records is called "Here They Come" and I have a Stereo pressing. One side has live recordings and the other has studio tracks. I don't have a scanner or digital camera which is why I don't include artwork with my vinyl releases.

I seriously doubt I'll rip "HTC" as I want to do "Just Like Us" "Midnight Ride" and "Revolution". I also have hundreds of other albums to rip before "HTC". Hey! At least I don't get pissed off when people request stuff!

Raiders "completeists" should search out "Paul Revere & The Raiders - Mojo Workout" on CD. Its a double disc the people at Columbia compiled while working on the first album and contains tons of stuff recorded live and in the studio. Its mostly "cover" tunes but proves the Raiders were a seriously rocking "Bar Band" before they hit the big time.

Thank you very much tubert!! I'm a big fan of these guys and Mark Lindsay. I posted several of my rips of their cds including "Here They Come" (Sundazed stereo cd). I don't have a copy of either of their first 2 albums that were released before they signed with Columbia.

I only have one (that is in it's proper location so I can find it lol) of their LPs: "Movin On". It is actually a reissued and retitled "Revolution". I've got the Mark Lindsay LP: "Silverbird" too. I posted a cd rip of that one. It is a 2 on 1 cd with the LP, "Arizona".

...anyway... This is great! Thanks again!

@firepower. I'm half way done with your Ricky Nelson "Bear Box" CD rip. Search the vinyl forum for my Ricky Nelson Greatest Hits rip if you like.

"Revolution" is actually an official album. Why a CD of "Moving On" has been retitled is beyond me.

I missed the Ricky Nelson. That was during one of those times when I was sick for a while or got my eyes crossed or something. I have it downloading now. Thanks for that!

"Revolution" was released in 1967. "Movin' On" was released in 1972. It is the same album with a new title, different track order and 2 tracks missing. It is also a Columbia release so I guess they figured they would sell a few with a new title and save on royalty payments by leaving a couple of tracks off. My copy is the 1972 vinyl stereo. You have the better issue for sure.

I remember seeing Spirit Of '67 at the record store a while back. I can't find it with my LPs so I guess it was too beat up for me to buy it. My memory isn't worth a crap. It's funny that I remember seeing it but can't remember if I bought it or not. Actually, I would have bet money that I bought it but it is not here and I am fairly organized with my LPs. I don't have very many so being organized isn't that hard.

Thanks again for this one and the Ricky Nelson I'm getting. I hope you like the "American Dream" box set. :)
