10,000 Maniacs's breakthrough album and creative high point...
- Chris Woodstra/AMG (4.5/5 Stars)

In My Tribe is an album by American alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs. It was their second major-label album and their first to achieve large-scale success. John Lombardo, Natalie Merchant's songwriting partner on previous albums, left the band in 1986. Merchant began collaborating with the other members of the band, most notably with Rob Buck.

In 1989, the track "Peace Train" was removed from the U.S. CD version. The song remains on vinyl copies and CDs released outside the United States. The song was later included in a 2-CD compilation, Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure and Unknown Recordings, released on January 27, 2004 by Elektra/Asylum/Rhino Records.

Review by Chris Woodstra (allmusic.com)

10,000 Maniacs's breakthrough album and creative high point, In My Tribe offers a survey of social concerns, including child abuse ("What's the Matter Here"), illiteracy ("Cherry Tree"), war ("Gun Shy"), and the environment ("Campfire Song") -- all tackled subtly and tastefully without too much preaching or pretension and in believable, real-life situations. Producer Peter Asher, whose credits include James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, provides the perfect sheen -- the group's pleasant folk-pop lends itself nicely to the '70s-styled singer/songwriter production. In the end, the album proves powerful not for the ideas (they've been covered before) but rather for the graceful execution and pure listenability. In My Tribe has served as one of the soundtracks for P.C. living and was required listening on college campuses in the late '80s.

Perfectt pressing.... Virtually without clicks, flat & centered. I did a standard washing procedure and remove the 3 or 4 remaining clicks... Another easy job on this one!

Great album from an under rated band.
Only eclipsed by the first album IMHO.
Any chance anyone?.....
Thanks aksman for another great rip.

Good album, clean rip, possibly not the most ideal pressing. Seems like there's no mids at all. Attack of the MoFi Smiley Face! Damn. :/

Thanks for the rip, though.

"...was required listening on college campuses in the late '80s."

Absolutely. I think this CD was on more or less every day from 87-89. Not because of the PC message or hippie ideals, but because the band sounded so darn good.

Almost afraid to listen to this again, lest I be swept under by a black rush of remember-whenning. I'l grab this and sock it away for a day when nostalgia can't cripple me.

Thanks again for your great taste and dedication!

Wow, this is really bright. No offense to Aksman, just a poorly mastered pressing.
