1984 / Genre: World - Jazz - Ambient - ECM Records - USA

Steve Tibbetts has been quietly producing records that sound like nothing much else. Imagining a kind of 'Fourth World' music.. Tibbetts combines African and Asian percussion, field recordings, ambient soundscapes and avant metal guitar heroics in a richly atmospheric brew.
He is an innovative and excellent musician; he has made wonderful albums. "Safe Yourney" is such an album that has to be heard by any serious music lover. Your "listening experience" is optimal when you listen in the late evening with dimmed lights.. Enjoy!

Review:

My favorite album. Ever..
Truly great albums create a universe of their own, and no album does that better than "Safe Journey". "Safe Journey" takes you on a funhouse ride through tortured jungles of feedback and vast echoing tundras of acoustic guitar, ending in a spiritual ascent into the cosmos. ( And, no, I didn't take acid before I wrote this. ) I would recommend this album to anyone with an adventurous pair of ears.

Thanks Arend, I've this LP and others.
It's a good and curious guitarist.

Yes Fran, this guitarist deserves more attention..
A tip for those who want to listen this album is, that the "high resolution" version is
highly recommended because of the many subtle sounds that come much better with the 24 Bit version..

I forgot to give the Youtube sample, you can listen track 4
(copy and paste....)

Like I said I like the compositions of Tibbetts is one of the icons on the ECM label.
If you don't have it scheduled, I'll capture "Exploded View" is one of his best productions. Aside from african ethno-rock sound blends nicely.

That would be great Fran, if you want to capture this album.
(I do not have the album)
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the 24-96-rip.
Yes, it's a great guitar album with rich and highly diverse soundscapes.
BTW: In the meantime Steve recorded with Ani Choying Dolma, a nepalese nun, on some highly recommended "esoteric" stuff (search youtube: "Steve Tibbetts and Marc Anderson" and "Choying Drolma & Steve Tibbetts").
