As one of modern music's most enigmatic and consistently entertaining personalities, Bjork has never shied away from the edge. Whether making straight ahead dance music, exploratory modern rock, or even show-tune-caliber drama, her vision has always remained innovative and original. Her voice jumps, in the space of a syllable, from a kitten-like purr to a banshee's howl, and is never anything less than captivating. HOMOGENIC, her latest musical endeavor, finds her plunging headlong into electronica, a form well-suited to her intense, offbeat phrasing and tone.
From the skittering breakbeats and ghostly wails of the opening "Hunter" to the all-out electronic crash that is "Pluto," HOMOGENIC explores the melding of human and machine. The drama of "Bachlorette" finds a lush, rich string section following a tripping electronic beat, giving way to the Icelandic wonder's trademark wail. The juxtaposition of thoroughly modern sounds with conventional elements, such as symphonic arrangements, pipe organ, and accordion, form a central theme, to which HOMOGENIC's title undoubtedly refers. On HOMOGENIC, the traditional and the technological find their meeting point in Bjork's soaring, otherworldly voice.

Wow.... my favorite Björk album ever... It'll be a treat to listen to this rip. Although I'm wondering about how this would sound considering she has been recording a lot on laptop computers since about the time of this release. I mean... if the vinyl would retain any analog sound if it even exists... What do you think?

Thanks a lot for this, I'm grabbing it

Hey there Kel! Thanks for the share!

Mertin, electronic music has its nuances and depths, even if an analog master doesn't exist. This one was programmed by Mark Bell of LFO,if I remember correctly, has strings on it. It's not all about the effing DR and the myth of analog.

Great pick, Kel. I'd love to see Post and Debut. <-- Not a request, do not ban me :).

If its not all about "effing DR" and the "myth of analog" (i'm with you on that somehow) - whats it about then? I think there are two thing that are important - mastering & ripping equipment! I think with posters like kel bazar, aksman, pbthal & co, the ripping equipment is not so much the limit. You need to find the best sounding pressings (and the "effing DR" is one important factor among others). Comparing it to a CD its always a nice indicator.

So thank you very much for this rip! I am very pleased to be able to revisit this album!

The talented rippers you mentioned don't usually do contemporary electronic albums (that would be amazing, actually). Mertin raised an interesting question. To me, digital is not the main issue, at such a level music is so complex and the recording process so thorough and intricate (voice, strings + sequencers) that you can forget about the analog source for once. A talented ripper with great set-up, Ex copy of the album, etc. can still provide the best sounding version of a particular piece of music. Homogenic is a pretty angry record, Debut and Post are crossover hits, much easier on the ear.

Listened to the rip this evening and it was great, best version i've heard, recommended to anyone interested in björk. It's also one of her best albums I think. Thanks again!
