It is surprising that Lee Morgan's The Procrastinator was not released when it was recorded in 1967 for the sextet (which includes Wayne Shorter, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Billy Higgins) lives up to their potential on a well-rounded set of originals by Morgan and Shorter. The music ranges from the funky "Party Time" (which sounds like it could have been written by Horace Silver) to more explorative pieces.

The fact that THE PROCRASTINATOR is a shade more atmospheric than other Morgan recordings from this period can be attributed to several factors. For one, the presence of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes gives Morgan new colors to work with as a composer, which he does to great effect on the title cut. The title cut features an elegiac opening statement reminiscent of the Modern Jazz Quartet; the tune ultimately yields to a sort of long-form variation on the blues. Another factor is the continued involvement of Wayne Shorter as a composer on Morgan's dates. Shorter's two contributions, the ballad "Dear Sir" and the bossa "Rio" share a questioning, ambiguous quality that draws the trumpeter into a more introspective zone.

Elsewhere, however, Morgan is still his confident and exuberant self. "Party Time," while less self-consciously "funky" than other tunes of the era, is nevertheless the kind of simmering, get-down minor blues that epitomized the "Blue Note Sound." The elegant, swinging "Soft Touch" is also in a minor key--the pensive head gives way to a series of searching solos over the uncluttered changes. "Stopstart," in this context, comes across as almost a throwback, more bebop than hardbop.

Many thanks to Kel bazar for even posting a rip during these turbulent days.

@ Everyone - Yes it may take "all day" to download the 24/96 rip but please be grateful for what ever file host is offered. Do use jDownloader to make the process less painful. For me it is taking about 1 hour per 300 MB segment in Obamalandia. There is also a one hour wait per download.

@ Kel bazar
Fill in the other file sharing please
FilePost gives a small speed
Posted By: Kel bazar Date: 24 Jan 2012 17:40:17
Here in the mountain, speed is very slow and it takes to much times to fix on other hoster all the files I’ve on FileSonic, except if I find one who accept easily remote upload like Filepost.

Everybody can use jdowloader and wait until they get all the files, the Listening will be even more enjoyable…

During USA daytime, one (the first) link needed 2 days and 6 hours to download; so I had to kill it.

At night (11-00 PM Pacific Standard Time), that time came down to about an hour. Not bad.

And then it did not ask me to wait for 3 hours for the next download, but for only 30 seconds.
No idea how it happened, but it did.

I just sent Kel a set of RS links. Hopefully he will be able to edit the post and put up the links very soon. I would love to post in the comments but doing so is now a reason for banishment. If the mods read this comment it too could be a reason for banishment.

BTW with a FilePost premium I was able to download with no troubles in less than two hours. I am now downloading SOA's latest rip, two parts each from RS and FP. Both host have similar download speeds.
