DESCRIPTION:
How is IT value within the enterprise defined, created, measured, and managed? Why is delivering value the key driver in an enterprise’s success? Is IT as much a part of an enterprise's success as efficient operations, effective management, and innovative products and services? What are the right IT value questions to ask, and what is the definition of IT value? What is the IT Value Management Framework? Specifically, what are the framework's components including: the IT Value profile survey, IT portfolio management, IT operations assessment, and IT performance visibility as well as company strategy and business objectives?

Dean Nelson, National Partner in Deloitte’s Technology Consulting Practice, which provides clients with technology offerings ranging from IT strategy to Web-based custom development, explains how to define, create, measure, and manage IT value within the enterprise. He discusses why delivering value is the key driver in an enterprise’s success and how IT is as much a part of its success as efficient operations, effective management, and innovative products and services. The program also features a case study from Marvin Balliet, First Vice President and Director of Business Programs and Solutions at Merrill Lynch. Balliet explains how the brokerage benefited from the practical application of IT value. In interviews, David Hofferberth, Research Director, Aberdeen Group, discusses the importance of cost-effectiveness, while Ted Kempf, Principal Analyst, Gartner, explains IT portfolio management. Also, Professor David Upton and his colleague, Andy McAfee, from the Harvard Business School, talk about the changing roles of IT and IT executives. Nelson begins the program by developing the right IT value questions to ask, and then looks at the definition of IT value. Then his colleague, Paul Howley, delves into the IT Value Management Framework, which is at the center of the program’s discussion. The framework is a toolbox that offers experience-based methodologies to address issues of alignment, prioritization, execution, measurement, and communication. This framework also contains components that represent tools, including: the IT value profile survey, IT portfolio management, IT operations assessment, and IT performance visibility. The framework’s fundamental design begins and ends with company strategy and business objectives. Nelson continues his discussion by addressing IT portfolio management and then looks to the future to examine how trends in spending, markets, and organizations will impact corporate strategy and IT value.
