Block Sorting A Set Of RapidShare Links

From time to time some inconsiderate person posts a list of RS links in a text file like this:
scrn1

You would like to feed the whole list into your download manager, sorted by RAR parts. Here's an easy way.

Although many text editors allow simple line sorting, this won't work here cos what you end up with is this (sorted by RS ID):

scrn1a

What u need is an editor that allows vertical block sorting. Altho I'm sure there are many out there that do this, I use EditPad Pro which is excellent for this and many other jobs. You can evaluate it here (search for other AH posts as well):
http://www.avaxhome.ws/software/editpad_612.html

So, install the app and open the text file with this list of links - it should look like these screenshots, whereWeb links are blue, underlined and even clickable. Then:

Go to Options > uncheck Word Wrap.
Go to Block > check Rectangular Selections
Highlight the vertical block "part2"..."part3" (or even just the numbers 2...3), like this:
scrn2

Go to Extra > Sort Alphabetically A-Z. The list should look like this:
scrn3

Turn Word Wrap back on when finished.

Voila. Done. If u like EditPad Pro, buy it and keep the developer happy.

Firstly, what is "inconsiderate" about posting links in random order?? You need to get all the files anyway? Who cares what order? What possible difference?

Secondly, any program with sort will do this. I have use the text editor "Text Pad" for years for this sort of thing. Works exactly the same way. But there is no point doing it in the end.

Thirdly, you can do a similar thing sometimes in flashget. Paste all the links at the same time onto flashget, then sort by the column "URL". Thats all. Works IF the file numbers are in increasing order, not the filename.

EditPlus also does the column sorting trick.

@phil_ga, thanks for your comments. I agree it probably wouldn't matter if you have a RS premium account and can dump all the links into Flashget. For those of us who need to d/load one part at a time, it's much easier to miss a part if they're not previously sorted in RAR part order, and also easier to keep track of where you're at in a long list. Also it's a lot easier to run your eye up and down a sorted list of RAR links and spot a missing part (say, if there are over 20 links). This is where being considerate comes in.

I can't see how sorting a list of files by URL in FlashGet would be any diff from sorting a list of URLs using any text editor (my second screenshot), but nevertheless I'll give it a try.

Glad you mentioned TextPad - I knew other text editors would do this.

Of course, u can use this method not just for RS but for any list of download links that contains an ID number where the IDs arent in the same numerical sequence as the RAR part numbers.

A lot easier, no extra software download
open a dos box type e.g "sort /+30"
press right clict to paste
press ctrl-z (i.e eof) and hit return
voila !
now mark and press right click to copy
(make sure properties-quick edit is checked)
