This is my set of firefox tweaks and other free useful computer
programs. many are particularly helpful with downloading and
catching files. i know that there are plenty more, and i bet
people will contribute even better ones in their comments,
so be sure to read those, too!

Firefox search engines

avaxhome- yes, there is one for this site!
imdb- an important one for checking films out!
softpedia- for checking programs out before you download or use them.
AND its a quick way to see if something is actually FREE.
Softpedia is here-
http://www.softpedia.com/

One of my favorite extensions is Rollo:

With this you can actually create your own search engine for firefox with up to 25 sites. you list whatever sites you like. i have one each for torrents, cracks, downloads, and
even song lyrics. only your own imagination is the limit. you can also access it from other computers.
rollyo.com/index.html

There are a lot of crack, torrent, keygen and warez sites that also have
seach engines for firefox.
Heres a lot more- check them out!

Extensions
Extensions have just cut so much crap and lost time out of my life. i hope they do the same for you. Here are some of the more appropriate ones for our purposes.

Linky
Linky is so helpful when people link their rapidshare download lists.
with linky, you can highlight them, click "open selected links in tabs"
and then copy to the clipboad and cancel the task (if you want to)
then add them to your rapidget program.
i usually use a notepad as an intermediary, because most people's
links arent in the neat rows you need for rapidget.

Down them all
Tweak this to down loads of whatever you want that is on the page.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/201/

Translate
This is evermost helpful at avaxhome! translate what youve highlighted, or the whole page.
of course, russian is there! you can customize your toolbar with a translate button.
it goes through babelfish.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/181/previews/

Video downloader
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2838/
While this is great, it does not download the films from YOUTUBE.
http://www.youtube.com/
i learned how to do this after another member-
voICEr got a film for me there. (how nice!)
this is a link of how to use the greasemonkey extension to do it!
http://www.unmediated.org/archives/2005/11/greasemonkeying.php
Greasemonkey link-

Restart firefox
For some reason, the restart link from firefox's site will not install on the newer firefox version. However, the creator's site will do it. great for every time you install or uninstall extensions.

Firefox extension backup
This is another lifesaver. i can back up my whole browser profile, extensions, search engines on a separate drive any time i want. i also sych this with my laptop.
http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe.html

Bookmarks online
I cant say enough about this. it automatically backs up my bookmarks
everytime i close my browser. can also download them from any other computer. i use it to synchronize with my laptop.
You need to make an account and can get the extension here
www.bookmarksonline.org/registrati.php

Add a bookmark here
Add bookmark here- add a bookmark without opening the whole deal. great for your toolbar bookmarks.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/11/

Save image in folder
Easily save images in personally customized folders. create whatever
folder you need to keep your images organized.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/614/

History Submenus
"Only most recent visit to a web-page is listed each day, due to the way history data is stored inside Firefox."
you chose how many days to save. finding where you were was never easier.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/682/

Here is where you can find other great extensions

Other free useful programs-
As I said earlier, I don't use a program unless i check it out through softpedia.
They list many free programs and show screenshots.
They test programs for spyware and stamp them with this if they pass.

Many of the programs also have this

and that usually sells me on trying them.
Its a great place to find free programs. A lot of people also like ZDNET.
http://www.zdnet.com/
For me softpedia is just quicker. A lot of the following programs got these
seals of approval.

Unlocker- this is an absolute must have for all.
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/#download

Damn nfo- view those nfo files instead of seeing that system file window.
www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Text-editors/DAMN-NFO-Viewer.shtml#

Polygot language identifier- identifies most languages with a copy and paste sample
www.polyglot3000.com/

Karen's directory printer (and other free programs)

Pixresizer
great when you really want that avatar and its just too big.

Extractnow
Drag and drop files or folders to extract
Supports ZIP, RAR, ACE, JAR, ISO, IMG, IMA, IMZ, BIN, MP3 (MP3>WAV), LHA, LHZ, & SIT formats

Atomic clock- if you like to ping
www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/

Universal Converter allows you to convert to and from many UK, US and metric units. To do a conversion, simply select a category (length, speed, surface, temperature, volume, weight, etc.), select the source and the target units.

Flv player
To watch those youtube films (also thats to voICEr)
http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog/article/flv-player-updated

WinDjView & MacDjView
is a fast, compact and powerful DjVu viewer for Windows with continuous scrolling and advanced printing options.
http://windjview.sourceforge.net/

There are multiple free anti-spyware and antivirus programs on the net. Here are a few:

Spybot
This seems to always find all the nasty toolbar and adware beasties.
www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

AVG free antivirus
free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Window's defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

HijackThis (and other free programs like CW shredder)
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

and then, for DVD copying-

Vob blanker
to remover trailers and such.
jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Dvd decrypter
www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Dvd shrink
this shrinks and burns now.
www.dvdshrink.org/

Here is a little guide on how to use these dvd programs together:

While there are a lot easier programs to use, somehow, i have always remained faithful to this little set.

some more...

NoScript 1.1.4.1

NoScript provides extra protection for your Mozilla/Firefox or Flock browser: this extension allows JavaScript and Java execution only for trusted domains of your choice (e.g. your home-banking web site).

This whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even not known yet!) with no loss of functionality...

Thanks for this nice post, however I've searched all 296 Firefox search engines and was unable to find one for AvaxHome :(

If I may contribute a little.
I've always install these extensions for my firefox and they never disappoint me:
No Script 1.1.4.1 http://noscript.net
Adblock Plus 0.7.1.1 http://adblockplus.org/
Adblock FiltersetG Updater 0.3.0.4 http://www.pierceive.com
MR Tech Local Install 5.2 http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/
SessionSaver 0.2.1.031 http://adblock.ethereal.net/alchemy.cgi/SessionSaver
Download Statusbar 0.9.4.1 http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/
ScrapBook 1.1 http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/
Greasemonkey 0.6.5.20060727 http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/

And for those embedded media like flv files from youtube
and other videos/flash i use the firefox extention
UnPlug 1.4.1 http://www.compunach.co.nr/unplug/

And of course with greasemonkey installed, there are thousand more ways to enhanced your firefox browsing, just look for userscripts that you feel will do.
My greasemonkey scripts that i installed right now are:
FindScripts
Linkify
Thumbs Only Gallery Browser
Good Will Press
Greased Lightbox
removeFlash
zoom Image
FM Fast Rapid
Image Host Redirector

Hope this will help, and for others, pls post also your firefox extensions that you think are good, thanx, godbless.

Thanks,

There are so many firefox extensions that sometimes we missed nice ones.

Good list to experiment.

Sorry for that triple post, you can disregard the other two.

For Joides, here's the link for the AvaxHome.ru search plugin
