Vincent decides that he can't take the monotonous routine of another Monday morning : the long commute from his home village, his uninspiring job at a factory and demanding family obligations that always interrupt his passion for painting. In the hope of finding what's missing from his life, he decides one day to see a little of the world and travel to Venice, encountering a delightful array of eccentric characters en route. Reminiscent of Jacques Tati, Iosseliani's droll comedy is a whimsical voyage of self-discovery that amusingly observes the absurdities of everyday life and human behaviour. (-DVD cover)

Vincent lives in a little French town, filled with eccentrics, and he follows the same routine, day in and day out. Up at five a.m. every morning, he takes the car to the bus to work, where he and his co-workers enjoy smoking a cigarette during the ten-second walk from the bus to the chemical plant gate. There the dreariness continues. He gets no satisfaction from his work, and none from his home life, where his wife nags him, his older son, Nicolas, ignores him and his younger son, Gaston, gets into mischief. All Vincent wants to do is relax and paint, but he rarely gets the time. (www.amazon.com)

One day, instead of putting his cigarette out and going to work, he walks away from the plant and enjoys his smoke. He then goes to visit his father who encourages him to take a trip to Venice and visit an old friend of the family. In Venice, Vincent is robbed. He meets his father's old friend, Enzo di Martino (played by the writer-director of the film, Otar Iosseliani), a vainglorious fallen nobleman who goes to great lengths to impress his guest. Vincent also meets and befriends Carlo who turns out to lead a remarkably similar life. Iosseliani won the Silver Bear at the 2002 Berlin Film Festival for his direction of Monday Morning; (www.amazon.com)

This is a funny, quirky comedy. It is a meditation on work, its rewards and frustrations. A welder in a large, repellent factory gives in to his original ambition of being a painter, and takes off for Venice. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0284277/usercomments)

What Ioseliani offers is not simply a social commentary or an act of rebellion against every day life, but an evocative examination of monotonous, lonely state of being deprived of basic human necessities(such as friends... and so many other elements.) Characters are lonely despite of their social standings and "forbidding" rules oppress everybody, as well.("No smoking" at factories, "no drinking" in households and so on.) In this film everything is done for a reason and everything makes sense. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0284277/usercomments)

Great master Iosseliani looks for the secret of human happiness in his latest film which is a pure joy to watch. (http://imdb.com/title/tt0284277/usercomments)

Oh thanks yet again, FNB.47! I never thought I would have the luxury of being able to enjoy Otar Iosseliani, from within the confines of my home!

So, am looking forward to viewing april (though it is merely september now) and falling leaves...

Awaiting with feverish excitement, your future posts, forgetting for the time being that, I still have a long queue of your gemlike posts to process before I would be able to download this! :-)

Warm regards and best!

FNB.47 PLEASE encode in proper way!
bitrate alone doesnt matter if you use wrong encode settings.
The 1,1gb rips look a way worse than 700mb rip with proper encoding.
Its pain in the ass to see you "destroying" such good films... :(((
Don't you realize that???? Nobody else?
You got good stuff but why dont you want to learn the encoding skills?

Hello "pratiloma", I am also a great admirer of Iosseliani. I've seen most of his work in theatres on big screen. Thanks to Blaq Out (http://www.blaqout.com/site2/) for releasing DVDs of his early works. So that I had the chance of watching Aprili , Patorali and others... My favorite Iosseliani films are :
La Chasse aux papillons (1992)
Les Favoris de la lune (1984)
Pastorali (1975)
(equally sharing the first place :))

and then,
Adieu, plancher des vaches! (1999)
Lundi matin (2002)
Brigands, chapitre VII (1996)
for the second place...

and then,
Aprili (1961)
Falling Leaves (1966)
Once Upon a Time There Was a Singing Blackbird (1970)

and the last group :
Tudzhi (1964)
Un petit monastère en Toscane (1988)
Et la lumière fut (1989)

Of course "last group" doesnt have the meaning of "not so good films"... all of his work are excellent.

Next month there will be a film festival in our city. I pray to watch his latest film "Jardins en automne" on big screen next month.

Hello "nickalaan", I also had the chance of meeting him in person , here in our city , when he was our honorary-guest of the film festival for the screening of "Lundi matin"'s premiere , four years ago. Such a great personality...

"Soy Cuba" will be posted next week, dont worry... do you want it as DVD or as one of my poor rips :)

cheers.

Hi "red4kikochka", sorry, I dont speak French. I translated your comment using "AltaVista BabelFish" and thought that you were asking for "... links to other French films...". Well please look at my earlier posts. Also , in the future I will post many French films.

Best wishes.
