Godard's superbly acted and inventive parody of modern life revolves around three characters who are all at turning points in their lives. The all-star cast features Isabelle Huppert as a country girl who comes to the city to become a prostitute; Nathalie Baye as a woman who decides to give up her city job to pursue an idyllic life in the country; and Jacques Dutronc as a television director, separated from his wife and daughter, and at the end of his tether. 'Sauve qui peut (la vie)' marked Godard's return after several years away from commercial cinema, and its rapturous reception reaffirmed his place at the forefront of innovative filmmaking.

This was the first feature by Godard after a decade spent experimenting with politics and video. It's as traditional a narrative as we have ever seen from him. The story has three parts. Denise Rimbaud (Baye) represents the imagination; she's a film editor who drops her frustrating work to find some fresh air in the Alps. Paul Godard (Dutronc) is the fearful-dependent side of most of us: he's afraid to leave the city, but can't live without Denise. Then there's business, represented by Isabelle the prostitute (Huppert). (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079854/usercomments)

The director, now 50 and with a flagging libido, has a field day with his sexual fantasies. The scene with the two hookers in the businessman's office is wonderfully funny, in its deadpan way it recalls Deux ou trois choses que je sais d'elle. The use of sound is more imaginative; he isn't using the montage of Beethoven quartet snippets that he often relies on. His camera moves more than in the past; there's a great slo-mo of Dutronc jumping over a table to tackle Baye, then they both collapse laughing onto the floor. The sense of freedom suddenly released is exhilarating. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079854/usercomments)

Sauve Qui Peut loosely translates as "every man for himself" and as such I guess is Godard's acknowledgment that 1968's dream of a new society is gone and everyone has to get on with the daily grind. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079854/usercomments)

The three protagonists try and save themselves in different ways, Natalie Baye through getting back to nature, Huppert through selling herself and the director Paul Godard through his work. Everyone however is ground down by the social relations they must operate within. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079854/usercomments)

As ever Godard leverages as much of his library as he can into the film, with huge chunks of Duras, Bukowski and sundry other writers cut & pasted in. And he plays the usual games with sound and image, juxtaposing them sometimes to beautiful effect, sometimes dissonant, quite often very funny. Thanks a lot for your permanent endeavors on Avax. Seeing of some of your shares was one dream of me for several years. I had dreames to see some of the films which you have posted here on Avax. One request:
Rapidshare is now accepting upload up to 300 Mb. Will you please increase the size of your files. It will make it a lot easier for us to download these films.
Again thanks.

Hello "murkovich" yes I have some of them and I will upload them coming days. You know , Godard is a productive artist. There are about 100 movies in his filmography. Its almost impossible for one to have all of them. I think I have his major work ("major" IMHO ofcourse:)) and I will u/l them one by one...

Hello "Yohanes" , thanks for your kind words.
I receive messages from "free" RS users to decrease the part-size of my archives. You know RS doesnt support "resume" for free-users and when something went wrong during d/l , they have to start from the beginning for the same part after waiting more than one hour. I know there are so many free RS users who are downloading these movies... so I think I will continiue "my-way" for a while...
Maybe another solution would be to u/l 2 diff. versions of the same movie one with 30MB parts and one with 300MB parts. I u/l 1GB per day (on average) that is one movie per day... in this case I will be uploading one movie per two days... I am not sure if it would be right or wrong...

I saw this film at an Isabelle Huppert retrospective in my city.
Certainly one of Godard's best film.
Once again, dear FNB.47, a simple thank you is just not enough :)

If anyone has this and wants to mirror it somewhere I would be so grateful!!
Every time I try with the RS.DE links I get the 'Download session invalid' after I wait anfd then type in the code!
Yet I cannot join up either...no way to get the links.
Strange but this morning I got parts 1-3 but for hours now trying for the rest.
:(

Cheers,
Fa
