Pink Floyd - Wish you were here QUADRAPHONIC MIX DVD-A only (1975)
DVD-A Only ISO (Image + Front & Back Covers) | 96/24 4.0 LPCM | ISO 14 x 190,7 MB + 169 MB
Genre: Prog Rock | Label: Harvest Q4 SHVL 814 UK Pressing | Source: SQ LP

THIS ONE CAME OUT A BEAUTY AND TO ME, IT'S THE BEST CONVERSION I'VE EVER HEARD.
AND WILL SOUND BETTER THAN THOSE MODERN LAME ASS JAMES GUTHRIE MIXES LIKE THE "NOT WORTH A PENNY DSOTM SACD" MIX.
THIS CONVERSION TOOK ME ALL OF JANUARY TO "DECLICK" BY HAND.
This is a SONIC masterpiece, the AC GTRS in "WYWH" are the cleanest gtr sound I've ever heard.
As for the history , y'all know it: Syd appeared at Abbey Road while the Floyd were recording and , as if nothing had happened, wanted to record with them...and the rest is history.
INCLUDES SLIDESHOW WITH LYRICS!
This mix has many elements that the Stereo one does not so , for those who have never heard the Quad version, it'll be a treat....so--
Enjoy it!,
kn'k

Tracklist:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part 1-5) (Saxophone - Dick Parry)
Welcome To The Machine
Have A Cigar (Vocals - Roy Harper)
Wish You Were Here
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part Two)

Transfer by kap'n krunch (sez- a LOT of work goes into these conversions since all the clicks however big or small are removed MANUALLY- ESPECIALLY THIS ONE which was one of the worst pressings ever- visually it's stunning ,but , oh, when the stylus is posed on it..snap crackle POP!)

Modern Surround 5.1 to Quad info:
These 1970's Quad mixes were made for only four "Full Range" speakers, which differ from most today's systems consisting of 5 small/medium satellites and a subwoofer. If your system is like this , do not worry , since the bass management will make the low frequency information go to the subwoofer, (provided that you have it set up correctly!!!).

No entiendo, ¿este dvd-audio es una versión comercial o casera?
Posted By: musicalbox Date: 03 Feb 2010 08:59:42
should I understand it that the source was 4 channels LP?

if such, why did they [the publishers] not released it as DVD Audio? And it only appeared on LP?
Thanks, I never heard 4 channel release, I think 2 channels are enough for me in 10/10 cases.

Last note: shouldn't you post in in audiophile section? It is hard to find.

Ah I almost forgot, thanks to you both, the ripper and uploader!

ah ha..an ISO!
this is the right way to rip DVD-A, thanks so much!
cheers. :-)

Guys, guys, I appreciate your comments but read more carefully the post, your answers are clearly stated

Yerbas:
Conversion=not commercial, mijo... a la verdad que parece comercial , me quedó cabrón, bájatelo si tienes un DVD AUDIO player solamente, no sirve un DVD VIDEO normal...

Musicalbox;
QUADRAPHONIC in the title.
I think it's time for you to open up your mind and go for the Quads, especially the recent ASTOUNDING Surround Genesis mixes- the PG ones are the best.
I love people who say that 2 channels are enough, yes we have 2 ears but LIFE is NOT in Stereo , it's in SURROUND, so , why limit your music to stereo...? By that same train of thought we should've stayed in MONO...
And thanks...

Dear friend, downloaded them all and listening to it now!
Thank you for your hard work but I don't agree with your sentence:
IT'S THE BEST CONVERSION I'VE EVER HEARD

Thanks JustPlay, I know it sounds bad when you toot your own horn , but the recording is state of the art, and since I don't use Noise Reduction, it comes out like a perfect LP, which is the closest to a Master you'll get.BTW, which conversion do you think sounds better?

I've been waiting for a commercial release of this kind of WYWH ever since DSOTM was released as SACD. What a great initiative! ***** out of *****

As always, many thanks to Kapn' Krunch for so much dedication in making such great transfers.

Dear empanadilla,

I've downloaded 14 parts of 2.75 GB and unrarred to "pf wywh iso.iso". I use Alcohol 120% to burn the image and play with both VLC and Media Classi Player, but there is no so at all. Could you kindy advise how I can play this album?

Regards,
N.H.HAI

Please use Foobar 200 to play it from a PC with digital out to a receiver.
Or from a standalone DVD-AUDIO player

At the moment, IMHO, until this release is bettered, this is the definitive reference recording of this piece of music.
Thank you Kap'N'Krunch.

@ManWhoCan:
Thank you very much for the best compliment ever :=) , glad you enjoy it.
Now, if only some of the people from the industry hired me....

Just got done burning and auditioning the DVD-A. This is the first surround mix I've heard of WYWH, and all I can say is "OH MY GOD!!!" Pretty much made my brain explode, and I hadn't even smoked anything before listening to it.

In particular, the track "Wish You Were Here" was REALLY different from the stereo mix, and sometimes different is good. I can see this is going to require several listens to fully absorb.

As for the sonics, they sound superb. The hiss is minimal and the highs aren't shrill at all. Definitely the correct choice to take hiss over artificial processing to get rid of it. I'd rather hear whatever the original recording had to offer - good and bad.

A MILLION thanks to the Kap'N.

Dear Kap'N and empanadilla,

My wife is getting pissed because I've listened to this disc too many times. "How many times are you going to listen to that", I believe was her actual comment. Well, I'm not done yet...

In fact, I'm so grateful for your fine work that I decided to contribute myself, and made some artwork for the DVD-A disc. This disc deserves proper artwork.

It can be found here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/389806384/Wish_You_Were_Here_QUAD_DVD-A_Artwork.tif

Hope you like it. Much nicer than writing on the disc with a Sharpie.

Enjoy!

- Bob

I'm a little late for this but wow, wow, and WOW! This sounds just great. I can only imagine how much effort you put into this and I'm very grateful. Sounds FABULOUS! Thank you so much.

kn'k sez:

it is NEVER too late to be thankful!
As I mentioned , to my ears , THIS is the best sounding conversion I have ever heard, and it's not because I did it ;=)
Yes, I put a LOT of effort into this one, it was CLICKIER THAN HELL, but no surface noise curiously enough, so it made a great transfer...
I STILL listen to this quite often too since it's a very different mix and has many elements that are not in the stereo version...

Cheers!

I haven't had a DSL connection since August last year , so I can not upload (or basically download) anything big. This situation will remain until the bastards at the phone company decide to install a landline in my house., please accept my apologies, Empanadilla.
