| “ | The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City. First active from 1964 to 1973, their best-known members were Lou Reed and John Cale, who both went on to find success as solo artists. Although experiencing little commercial success while together, the band is often cited by many critics as one of the most important and influential groups of the 1960s. As Brian Eno put it, "The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band." In "Velvet Underground and Nico" captures a concert of a certain group with a distinctive style of Warhol's long series, "dirty" images, etc. The band emerged from Warhol in 1966, and it included Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, John Cale and Maureen Tucker. Warhol himself reinforced the group, and invited the group German actress and singer Christy Paffgen, also known as Nick, who starred in other films Warhol (including "Girls of Chelsea"). Velvet Underground & Nico was also named the first album. | ” |
