About the Recording

Yet another great Crystal release. Fabulous sound quality and "there"-ness. Laurindo Almeida interprets classics such as Yesterday and also delves into more comptempory music blending in and creating a soundscape so effortless whatever the tune. And oh, the sound quality is simply astonishing. Make sure to turn the volume up. Makes you really just sit and listen. Superb. Shame it's a 45 rpm. so you have to get up so quick and change side :-)

@dimsal:
thank you for your great work.

@LazyJazz:
you should try another decompressor.
i experienced the same with the precedent Almeida album.
i tried "7-zip_portable" and everything was ok

Yes, 7-zip will do. or you can first combine all files into one with HJSplit and then use any decompressor to unzip, but 7-zip is faster.

Statistical probability makes it very unlikely all of your posts escaped my attention, dimsal - and yet they did in some mysterious way.
I never noticed there's another member posting 24/96 rips besides aksman. I discovered your activities only this night.
Well, better late than never.

Got some catching up to do...Thank you for this one.

Thanks for this one dimsal. I'm hoping it's solo guitar.
d'Avignon, his rips are of high quality. Might have something to do with his top-notch gear. The more people posting high quality rips, the better.

BTW I'd thought I'd pass along a link to another user's HQ vinyl rips. http://www.demonoid.com/files/?uid=1302702&seeded=2
He also posts on the pirate bay. His stuff is mostly classical, and some avant-garde. He uses 24bit 44.1k. 96k might be a tad better, but going from 16bit to 24bit is definitely a noticeable improvement, especially with dynamic music.
Also, you can hear what the highly regarded Linn Sondek LP12 table sounds like, and a highly regarded Lyra cartridge as well.

Thanks SuperFuzz, I'll have a look at demonoid's. 24/44.1, I'll have to make that a separate dvd. Surely you can't burn that to dvd together with 24/96s.

Yes, I already noticed the quality of Dimsal's rips. And googled his turntable, pfff..!!

I picked up the Byron Janis. That's my first classical record in hi-res. I wonder how it will sound on my stereo. So far, I've only heard it via my simple pc speakers, which do not exactly do justice to high quality records.

d'Avignon, true, you can't mix resolutions on a disc, and also, you cannot burn 24/44.1 to a DVD (like with lplex) since the DVD video format only accepts 48k or 96k sampling rates. You must burn to a DVD-Audio disc. This is why I started using the program DVD-Audio Solo which I've mentioned in other posts here. Works great! http://www.cirlinca.com/

I wonder why it's still not possible to burn normal-resolution wavs to dvd as data, or hi-res wavs for that matter, so that a standalone dvd player will read it. I mean, you can do so with mono- or stereo mp3, and that's 16/44100.
Converting the wavs to video format is a nice solution, but a bit clumsy, isn't it.

Silly machines, computers. They can do the most complex things, and then they can't do the most obvious

As for burning waves to data DVD discs... I think it depends on the player. My Oppo standalone will play almost anything, but you're right, it won't do waves (or FLACS which would be GREAT) but there may be a player that does?
I don't see anything clumsy about Lplex for getting the waves to DVD video, it's pretty simple actually. DVD-Audio Solo is easy too, and it does DVD video.

I think the ideal solution anyway is to not burn to any discs, but use some sort of hard drive/ media player solution, along with a good DAC. There are many ways to skin that cat...

search for 7zip.
Use 7z465.exe, this is the latest version of 7 zip.
Because the files are compressed with 7zip

Crystal clear! Thank you!
You can also use Total Commander: open Files, select Combine Files, then your file from the list (after search); open resulting compressed file with Rar. Start enjoying your download!
