Savina Yannatou-Musique des chambres
Genre: Jazz | MP3 | CBR 320 | 131 MB

A great singer and her virtuoso ensemble of musicians in jazz improvisations and experimentations. Her new album.

As written inside the bilingual CD booklet:

Music of Chambers (Musique des Chambres) had its starting point in the Greek song An evening (composed by Giorgos Mouzakis) and its context comes from a radio program I produced for Radio 3 in 1993, where I used literature and architecture texts referring to interior spaces.
On an evening in September '95 a wandering violinist in the streets of Plaka, Athens, was singing "an evening like a dream, like spring, you'll come to find me, I'll be waiting for you"; his violin accompaniment was reminiscent of contemporary music and his vocal variation of melody reminded me of Smyrna songs. I wished to make something with it. but I didn't have the chance to meet him again and invite him for a recording. In 2005 I got into the studio to fulfill my desire without his participation. In the final production th— reminiscence of the original idea and its cause.

The Radio 3 series Music of Chambers was a program with music arranged for empty rooms', the prevalent ones remaining are the sound of typewriter and the reverberation of words. The type formed into an accordion in the hands of Dimitris Imellos on the cover photo: this idea had been ti the theatre performance of Sternberg's Dreamdrama directed by Stathis Livathinos for the National Theatre of Greece in 2005 and I re-used the idea here, with the same actor in the photo.
The rest of the sounds coming from the bass of Michalis Siganidis were cut and pasted by myself in multiple levels and combinations, thus we sign together the pieces in which he improvises in the poems. The pieces Open up to me and Yo were composed/arranged initially for the play Nibuk by Br. Mayers, directed by Sotiris Hatzakis for the National Theatre in 2006.
Some of the other poems were first performed on a special occasion dedicated to Greek poetry in Munich (a performance organized by Eleni Torosi), where I performed with P. Kowald and Floras Florides. The performance was repeated at the Byzantine Museum, Athens (organized by Hellenic Books Centre), where I performed with V. Papavasiliou and Floras Florides, as well as in Chania, Crete, with G. Pitsheider, following the invitation and persistent encouragement of L. Kakaroglou. whom I thank for his support.

I thank the Publishing Companies: Kedros, Ellinika Grammata, Nefeli, Ermis, Elliniki Vivliki Etairia, Foundation for their kind permission to use the poems.
