Thank you so much for posting this. Is there a chance you'll be posting the entire mono box? I just hope I'll be able to grab all of these before they get deleted. The race is on!!

Thanks Thanks Thanks.
Where is the link for CD2?

Many thanks!

The White album in mono... what an odd thought! I can appreciate the idea of the early albums in mono, since that's how I first heard them, but even my musically unsophisticated parents had bought a stereo phono by the time the White album came out.

Please don't take this as a criticism of your upload, I'm just musing out loud... are there any noticeable differences in the mix of instruments or such. Just curious if anyone wants to comment on their impressions, as I don't really understand the idea of a mono release at this point in time, well into the 21st century. Otherwise just ignore me, no offense meant to anyone here.

Thank you LezDawson! May I also add (out of concern for the post) that you consider not using the band name or title in the RS links? I only say this because there seems to be a very definite pattern to RS removing obvious links that point to these and other copyright material. The initials help them remain camoflouged. That's completely up to you. Just trying to help preserve your quality work :-)

freedom2, go here for the answers to your questions:

@ unidyn: You might be right. I've already uploaded a couple of others with the band name, but I suppose I could change that for future ups. problem is, the Avax post will show up on searches anyway, so it wouldn't make a great deal of difference... or would it? I'll do as you say anyway, nothing to lose!

@ freedom2 and Guthead: Yeah, I def prefer the stereo on the later ones - and even the earlier ones when listening on a good system. But the monos are much better for listening with earphones (e.g. iPod, Walkman, whatever). And yes, there are several glaring differences between the two mixes on many tracks - many have different vocal takes, etc. But the main advantage of the monos is for when listening with earphones (IMHO).

Disc 2 is on the way. Watch this post.

@LezDawson - At this point if you upload the Beatles to RS your posts will be deleted sooner than later. This statement is based on my history and that of the other 2009 remaster posts. I have always used obscure names and my recent RS uploads get deleted. My MFSL Vinyl of Let It Be was deleted within 24 hours. The file was called "TBC_LIB". So someone is monitoring Avax posts. I recommend also posting to Hot File as all my posts there are still alive. File Factory also can have a short shelf life. Obscure file names are no longer a safety net. Post to RS for all those who have paid accounts, but you should also post to another host for those who come to the party late.

@rocknrollsteve Thanks for the link... others may want to check it out also for very detailed info on the white album vinyl releases and a track-by-track comparison of the mono-stereo differences.

all others, thanks for your info & opinions re mono releases... I'll check it out. If anyone has links to the whole mono box set in mp3, feel free to PM :-)

THANKS!

PS Sorry to offend you, but since I'm mostly just curious about the subtle (or not) differences between the mono & stereo releases, I thought 320k mp3s might suffice. Please don't take it personally.
Posted By: LezDawson Date: 12 Sep 2009 00:52:48
Wasn't offended at all, my friend. But FLAC is not much bigger than 320 kbps MP3 - and it's lossless so you can really hear the subtleties in the mastering and the mixing.
Forget MP3s except for Walkmans/iPods - MP3s are nasty. Good enough for chavs that listen to hip hop and techno and all that tuneless crap. For The Beatles you NEED lossless! ;)

Thanks! For future reference the settings on EAC should be set to defeat audio cache, and the Read offset correction for your drive is +6.

I know it takes a lot of time to rip and scan all these and then create a post and upload the files.
I sure do thank you!
Posted By: LezDawson Date: 12 Sep 2009 09:21:46
Aye. The missus was mad with me last night as I was up EXTREMELY late doing this.
Posted By: wall Date: 12 Sep 2009 14:35:50
On my over resolving equipment quality is much worse, than on the rip from German vinyl...

At you the rip of an original disk, or you have loaded it from torrents?
Posted By: 4-F Date: 12 Sep 2009 15:39:47
@LezDawson: I was up EXTREMELY late reaping the benefits of your being up EXTREMELY late. lol

Wifey had fallen asleep on the couch watching tv so I was able to stay up late without the backlash you endured. :)

@wall: LezDawson bought the box set and is ripping and scanning everything he is posting. No torrent.
Posted By: LezDawson Date: 12 Sep 2009 17:00:51
Thanks 4-F - yeah, these are originals, not vinyl rips and not from torrents.

@ wall: I agree, IMHO the White Album stereo is MUCH nicer than the mono mix (same with Sgt Pepper, again IMHO), but the mono will sound better than the stereo mix in earphones - and also it's just interesting to hear alternative versions. But I do think the White Album mono version suffers from having no limiting at all. Just a little bit of subtle limiting gives a smoother sound, but this has none at all, so it sounds a bit rough-edged.

Sorry it's only 128kbps (yuck) but is the best I could find.
