Bela Bartok The Complete Edition Box Set (29 CD)
29 CDs | Label: Hungaroton | Monkey Audio : APE, CUE, No Log | Complete Size: 7.93 GB | Rapidshare

Béla Bartók was one of the leading Hungarian and European composers of his time, proficient also as a pianist. He joined his friend Zoltán Kodály in the collection of folk-music in Hungary and neighbouring regions, including, in his case, Anatolia. His work in this field deeply influenced his own style of composition, which is, however, very much more astringent in its apparent mathematical organisation than much of what Kodály wrote. He was out of sympathy with the government that replaced the immediate post-1918 republic in Hungary, where he was held in less official esteem than abroad, and moved in 1940 to the United States, dying there in relatively straitened circumstances in 1945.

This set features every single (known) composition by the great Hungarian master Béla Bartók. From the orchestral works and the choral works to the piano works and the chamber works: Everything is here, including very rare works never before recorded.< Although there are certainly superior performances of singular works, the set, as a whole, is very near a definitive presentation of Bartók's output. Another bonus is that, as far as I can tell, all of the music is performed by Hungarian orchestras and musicians, so you'll get a very authentic Hungarian 'sound'. Especially good is the choral works and piano works, I think. The set also comes with extensive liner notes to each work, and texts to all of the choral works.

Thank you sahandelmi. I know how many effort it is make such huge post. I'm very glad you did. My love for Bartok started as early as 1963. In 1960 I joined a really good amateur orchestra and in 1963 we studied the Concerto for orchestra. Many (older) members did not like the modern music but for me it was the start of a new era. Two years later we also played the viola concerto.
Meanwhile I have collected a lot of CDs with Bartok music, but it is good to have all together.
So: many thanks from The Netherlands from an amateur violist.

Is there something wrong with 0:16-0:19 of track 09 of CD 18 or have I had some bad luck with downloading?

Another error: CD 14 Track 11 7:40.

So I have listened to the whole collection. It was my dream for years. About 1980 I began to listen to Bartok when I had bought first vinyl record from this complete. So far I have collected 28 of 38. But it is not easy to find it.

And now I have got everything. So great, great thanks to you, sahandelmi.

But...

I have found some errors in downloaded files. I'm not sure if these are all of them, because I had no possibilty to listen very carefully. But so far I have found 8 errors.

CD02 - Track19 - 2:36
CD10 - Track01 - 1:34
CD14 - Track11 - 7:40
CD18 - Track09 - 0:16-0:19
CD18 - Track15 - 1:10-1:25
CD24 - Track12 - 4:59-5:02
CD24 - Track13 - 0:21-0:28
CD27 - Track32 - 1:24

Errors from CD02 i CD10 are not a problem any more. Many thanks to xinxilla who had helped us not only with covers but with corrected tracks (we can find links in xinxilla comments to first part of collection).

But what about other tracks. Xinxilla could you help us once again?

Please...

and track 13 is described as Mikrokosmos volume V: 132-133-134-135 (time 2:09)

but in fact
track 12 content is 129-130-131-132-133 (error is in 133)
and track 13 content is 134-135 (error in 134 No. 2).
