Caro Emerald – Live in Concert (2011)

For anyone not yet acquainted with our latest sensation on the Dutch pop front, here’s Caro Emerald and her 16-member Grandmono Orchestra. Caro’s debut album, “Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor” topped our national charts for more than 30 weeks and reached four times platinum.

What music does she bring? Well, happy music, without a doubt; critics say it’s retro-pop. The fifties are brought back to life. And indeed she sounds like the Andrews Sisters (without the close harmony, of course, she’s the only singer) to which this slightly modern touch reminiscent of, perhaps, Blu Cantrell is added, although the latter is a tad more R&B oriented. I saw Caro life at the North Sea Jazz festival in 2010 and was impressed by the wall of sound produced by the big band.

This is a three-disc release: an audio CD, a DVD and a Blu-ray of the same concert. Sadly, I don’t have the equipment to either read or rip the Blu-ray, so you’ll have to make do with the DVD. And the CD, of course.
