Chet for Lovers

Chet Baker is one of the American legends of American Jazz. The trumpetist and vocalist was outstanding at conveying a wide range of feelings through his voice and melancholic "cool jazz" trumpet. But he was especially capable to bring out the emotions of romantic jazz ballads: his voice and his trumpet could easily transmit the melancholic tone of lost love, while at the same time producing the soft, sweet joy of new love being born.

"Chet for Lovers" is a very complete collection of Jazz standards recorded between 1955 and 1965. The musical instrumentation sounds remarkably contemporary, as if it was recorded today by one of the contemporary jazz proponents. This is a testimony to Chet Baker's timelessly elegant trumpet playing and distinctive vocals. Actually, if you compare and contrast this collection to some of the new "cool jazz", downtempo recordings of ballads, you'd probably be amazed at how well the 40-50 year old tunes stack against the contemporary recordings.
