From the notes: Earl Wild began performing on the radio in his home town of Pittsburgh in the late 1920's at the age of 12. He worked at Pittsburgh's KDKA radio station on and off for the next eight years until he went to New York City to work at the famous NBC radio network in Rockefeller Center. From 1937 to 1946 Earl Wild performed countless times on the radio, at NBC. There were many scheduled solo piano music periods on the radio at that time in which Mr. Wild would perform selections of his choice. Many of these wonderful old live radio broadcast performances have been lost but fortunately a few still remain on old 16" transcription acetates." by Christopher Weiss

Continuing with comments from the Notes: "In 1946, Mr. Wild moved to the WABC radio and TV network where he continued to frequently perform live over the radio. ABC debuted a popular radio program airing it every Sunday morning called 'The Piano Playhouse.' Three wonderful pianists held forth each week performing selections from the classics, jazz and everything in between. The program quickly became an audience favorite. Besides Earl Wild playing the classics the other two staples on the program were jazz pianists, Stan Freeman and Cy Walter. .... one of the pieces Mr. Wild performed on that program in 1949 - the monumental Liszt Sonata in B minor."

Enjoy!

Hi DanseDePuck

Thank you very much for resuming posting and for sharing with us these recordings. I had not a great knowledge of Earl Wild's playing but I've listened the filler pieces on the Brahms CD and they were very convincing. It's nice to hear him in a repertoire different from the usual Rachmaninov and virtuosic showpieces, since Wild was really a great pianist, not only a virtuoso.

Hey! Thanks for the welcome! It's been a long time since I have posted. It's true. Been tied up with work and complicated "dog" life. My old Scottie finally went to dog heaven and I have a new Scottie called Olivia. The latter has been the most traumatic of my life experiences and I have owned dogs for over 30 years.

Back to our subject: Earl Wild. Wild was such a prolific and wide artists that he took on everything. I will be posting a whole series of his recordings which I have not seen on the web at all. The one that is here is the one containing his Gershwin song transcriptions. I will most certainly post his compositions and arrangements as well. So hang in there. He was a great artist. And more people should have access to his recordings.

Pleased to read your dog experiences and welcome to the "new entry" Olivia!

Thanks again for all this Earl Wild stuff and for the forthcoming discs!
