is this really the original cover for this piece of music? Quite sick...
Posted By: duro63 Date: 16 Mar 2010 12:29:04
one of the best young german composers.
Posted By: povipovillas Date: 16 Mar 2010 12:44:25
Thanks a lot : this composer is totally new to me. Despite a very unattractive cover indeed, I'm looking forward to discovering his music.

I can't unpack it. It says the ape-file is damaged?

Go, basa, go!
Posted By: d'Avignon Date: 16 Mar 2010 13:37:16
Haha...looks like a doll from a puppet theatre, and it's received a treatment celebrated German artist Anselm Kiefer would give his paintings/sculptures etc...rain & wind, acid & electrocution.
It's a very powerful image. Therefore, it's a good one. It conveys despair, shock. A man stricken by fate. Aw...the poor little guy is in terror. Look at that deeply sad left eye (our point of view),it evokes pity. At least, that's what it does for me.

@GorgonInfernalis

Try the repair function in winrar (menu = Tools/repair archive). Basa included 3% recovery. Works fine

@d'Avignon
Thanks. Now it works. 7zip wasn't able to unpack it. But WinRar did. I had to repair part one.

Excellent post! Looking forward for more.
The figure looks like a work from the german artist Thomas Schütte.

According to the booklet, the photographer was Dagmar Poppe, most probably a relative of the composer. I don't know if doing the photography means she also made the puppet

Thank you, basa!

Btw.

I've tried reparing this damaged archive with WinRAR and with 7zip and the result is still "corrupt file". It looks as if Part 1 is actually the one that is damaged/corrupt.

Anyone has a similar problem?
Posted By: v4v Date: 16 Mar 2010 22:36:56
the problem is with part1 only. I successfully repaired it and then unpacked all using WinRar version 3.8.
Posted By: WMM Date: 17 Mar 2010 00:11:31
Just repaired part1 with WinRar 3.7 and then was able to unpack the whole archive.

Sorry boys but Winrar doesn't exist on Mac, and the equivalent, UnRarX doesn't repair anything…
Could you please reload it?
I am so disapointed, my face looks like that of the jacket!
Posted By: voland2 Date: 17 Mar 2010 13:22:24
When I use WinRAR to repair that part, the result has a different name: "fixed.Enno_Poppe....". Do I need to rename to the original name of that Part 1 in order to unpack the archive?
I apologize for bothering with this, but I have not had to repair an archive before and I am not sure if I did the repair correctly.
Posted By: v4v Date: 17 Mar 2010 14:28:37
@ voland2
Of course, you can rename file, but it is simpler to start to unpack from "fixed.Enno..." and when asked for the next file, to click on 'browse' button and select the second file from the set.

@ kadichon56
try some of the tools form 'Rar Repair For Mac' page
http://www.topshareware.com/rar-repair-for-mac/downloads/1.htm

Thank you all for advice. Apparently, my WinRAR program was outdate (or no longer valid as a trial version). I downloaded the latest version and it fixed all damaged sectors (something which the older version could not do - I missed those "can't recover damaged sector" messages during processing).

So now it all worked OK.

I've been trying to order this CD from col legno but they won't deliver to my house! I will be playing Geloschte Lieder next month and really need this recording, but I have a Mac and can't repair the file! Please, please could someone re-upload for those of us that don't have the extra $149 to buy some rar repair software for Mac.

Very grateful in advance...
Posted By: dangdang Date: 18 Mar 2010 04:49:31
Mac users do not need to pay in order to repair .rar files.
...And the recordings were certainly worth having done this.
Thanks a lot for the upload!

1. Download a CUI rar from www.rarlab.com/download.htm and unpack to wherever you like (e.g. ~/Download/).
2. Run Terminal.
3. Move to the folder in which 'rar' binary file was put.
$ cd [Drag & drop the folder into Terminal window.)]
4. Copy 'rar' to /usr/bin/ so that the app can be activated no matter where you are.
$ sudo cp ./rar /usr/bin/
(Type your login password.)
5. Move to the folder containing the .rar files.
$ cd (Drag & drop the folder above.)
6. Let the 'rar' repair the errors.
$ rar r [Filename]
7. Fixed .rar files will be generated. Now you can unpack with either double-clicking them or type
$ rar x [New Filename]

Thank you very much dongdang for your help but… your instructions are not clear for a non-informatician like me.
I follow parts 1 and 2 but I stuck on part 3. It's chineese.

" cd [Drag & drop the folder into Terminal window.)] " ???

and later, no idea how to copy sth to "usr/bin"

Posted By: nuelino Date: 18 Mar 2010 17:26:40
Thank you basa005 (and thanks dangdang for the mac instructions)!

@kadichon56

3. type "cd " (with space) then drag & drop the unpacked folder of what you've just downloaded (rarosx-3.9.3.tar.gz) into Terminal window and then type Enter
4. just paste "sudo cp ./rar /usr/bin/" into Terminal + Enter
etc.
Posted By: dangdang Date: 18 Mar 2010 18:07:23
@ nuelino
Sorry. I made a serious mistake...
Yes, "sudo cp ./rar /usr/bin/" is correct. I modified my comment too.

Thanks to all but it doesnt work. I give up…
Posted By: dangdang Date: 19 Mar 2010 04:26:27
What is for sure is that CUI rar is the only software for Mac OS X users who want to ADD recovery records as well as fix (somehow some products without these functions cost $30+).
Saying straightly, if one has ever considered sharing something, he will have familiarised with the software.

many thanks basa for the up. Thanks also to dandang for the walk through of how to use the rar terminal app to repair the original rar files. Only thing i would add is that on my Mac OSX 10.4.11 and rar 3.93 it created a number of files with the prefix “fixed.“. When I tried to expand these new files with UnRarX it still failed. It worked however after I removed the prefixed ”fixed.“ from the file names.

btw I don't mind the cover graphics, in fact, it makes me look forward to hearing the music...

Many thanks to all
