“Isabelle Faust has gone back to the original manuscript sources to offer us her versions of these iconic masterpieces of the violin repertoire. In Bach s time, music for solo instruments was still little explored territory, and his Sonatas and Partitas immediately established themselves as a benchmark, technically challenging and brimming with creativity.

Review: Isabelle Faust's intimately scaled, vibratoless unaccompanied Bach may not immediately appeal to all tastes, yet the specificity, control, and utter conviction with which she conveys her approach adds up to a stimulating listening experience. Unlike the wan, mousy, threadbare fiddling certain artists deem appropriate for Bach, Faust's tone always is firmly focused and dynamically variegated, and her intonation is consistently dead of center.

Time and again familiar movements emerge in fresh garb. For example, Faust's subtle agogic elongations in the D minor Partita's Corrente and the E major's Gavotte en Rondeau generate tension and release without detracting from the steady pulse. While the D minor Chaconne's steady, unifying tempo is brisk, nothing sounds rushed or glossed over on account of Faust's multi-leveled articulation and awareness of bass lines either real or implied--and the rapid arpeggiated figurations take on a quiet, hauntingly ethereal quality that you'll never forget once you hear it.

Faust's fluid, conversational C major Sonata Fuga features effortless distinction between detached and legato phrases. In contrast to the feathery bravura Faust displays in the Sonata's Allegro assai finale, the violinist downplays the E major Partita Preludio's motoric thrust by shaping the phrases melodically. Hopefully Faust intends to record the remaining three Bach solo violin works; I look forward to hearing them, and rehearing this release often.		”

Kind of a "blah" recording of Bach's sonatas and partitas. Grabbed this from my library and didn't bother ripping it after hearing her mediocre sound and interpretations. I also agree with Raj, why 4 files for an upload a bit over 300 megs?!!? Two files would have served everyone much better.

If anyone wants this, it's currently on the green demon where it was originally taken from. Very well seeded.

the only working services for free downloaders ARE and STAY
RapidShare and MegaUpload, all the rest is just pure nonsense

but if you "uploaders" (who mostly steal from other sources)
just want to make the people angry for some cheap pennies...
i can just laugh and move on to better people

@search4bp - not to worry, once the slime find out all their efforts
amount to very few pennies by "uploading" material from other sources,
they'll go away and leave everyone with real music sharing...again!

@hankpurcell - thank you for the tip! I found this on Demonoid and
downloaded it in 8 minutes. It's not bad, but there are many better
versions around.

Ugly and lifeless playing, all of her notes on the e-string are squeaky and squeezed. And she is stupid enough to think that in Bach's time violin players didn't imitate the human voice and knew NO VIBRATO!

Well, obviously I like the violin played with little vibrato. A sober sound without much ado and baroquish adornments, concentrating on the spirituality of these pieces. I happen to disagree with the negative reviewers above - I still think this is a very good performance.

I switched over from RapidShare to FileSonic while RS was not popular anymore with the uploaders. Instead many of the use FS and I don't want to pay for two accounts. Nowadays FS works perfectly with me.

Now I have played the music, I must say I'm very impressed by the way she is playing this wonderful music. Indeed with no vibrato and still a warm and lively tone. I'm glad with this recording and I hope she will record the other sonatas and partita soon.
