| “ | Rian de Waal first attracted international attention by winning prizes at prestigious competitions, at the "Vianna da Motta" in Lisbon in 1979 and the "Queen Elisabeth Competition" in Brussels in 1983. His studies with Edith Grosz at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam, which he completed summa cum laude, were followed by masterclasses with Rudolf Serkin and Leon Fleischer. Rian de Waal is internationally acclaimed as one of the Netherlands' most important pianists and has performed all over the world in addition to playing with Royal Concertgebouw and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras. Critics have praised the combination of seemingly unlimited virtuosity and expressive warmth of his playing. | ” |
