Alexei Lubimov, Hammerklavier

Alexei Lubimov, a pianist and harpsichord-player, was born in Moscow in 1944. He was educated in the Central Music School (class of A. Artobolevskaya) and at the Moscow Conservatoire under Professor H. Neuhaus and assistant professor L. Naumov. In 1965 the pianist was awarded the first prize at the Rio de Janeiro International Pianists Competition, winning in 1968 the International Competition in Montreal. The core of Lubimov's repertoire is made up from old harpsichord music, works by J. S. Bach, the Vienna classics and also the 20th-century music ranging from Scriabin and Debussy to Schoenberg and We-bern. A. Lubimov often performs old music on original keyboard instruments. An example of this is the present recording of Mozart performed on the Hammerklavier for which it was originally meant by the composer.
The "Facsimile" series contains recordings of musical works written in the 16th — early 19th centuries in their original sound. It concerns both the choice of instruments (old ones or their replicas), versions and performing devices of the epoch.
