After her acclaimed version of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas, Helene Schmitt devotes a new recording to unpublished Sonatas by Schmelzer (ca 1620-1680), recently discovered in the archives of the British Library. These Sonatas will no doubt confirm the words of a contemporary critic who wrote that the Viennese virtuoso was "the most accomplished violinists in Europe".
