VA - New Piano Works From Europe and The Americas (1993)
Haydée Schvartz, piano
Avant-Garde | EAC (ape + cue) | CD 71:08 | booklet | 234MB | RS
| “ | A debut recital of incredibly varied and fascinating music from Argentinean pianist Haydée Schvartz. Her teachers include Roberto Brando, Dora Castro and Nikita Magaloff. Ms. Schvartz continued her studies in London with Maria Curcio and subsequently received a a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Buffalo, New York with Yvar Mikhashoff, where she won the Cameron Baird Competition in 1990. "Schvartz's disc is no less interesting, including several realizations of the Perpetual Tango Cage wrote for Yvar Mikhashoff's Tango Project, recent miniatures by Berio and Pärt, and a Schumann-inspired set of nocturnes by Gerardo Gandini (Shvartz includes the relevant Schumann work for good measure). More substantial are the Quattro Illustrazioni of Scelsi, Kagel's impressive An Tasten and a strong work by the Argentinean Gabriel Valverde called Ek-Statsis which lives up to its name." ---Bradley Lonard, ABC Radio (Australia) | ” |

a little "divertissement" and entertainement ;-)
Acrostic written by Cage on the "Perpetual Tango"'s score,
where one can discover two times the name of Erik Satie:
thE devil neveR takes tIme to thinK he juSt tAngos insTead he Is quitE cool
hE his daughteRs wIfe and servants Know they'll never Stop dAncing They never do It's vEry hot
based on the "instructions" written by Satie for the XVIII'th piece "Le Tango"
inside the "Sport et Divertissements" score of 1914:
Le tango est la danse du Diable. C'est celle qu'il préfère. Il la danse pour se refroidir.
Sa femme, ses filles et ses domestiques se refroidissent ainsi.

I've been looking for ANY works by Gabriel Valverde, whose music (in just one piece I've heard) is among the most haunting and beautiful among 20th century composers.
To the others: in a few hours more that 80 peers and only 1 comment. Many thanks :-(
btw I know that life is hard for the avant-gardists...
Don't worry about anonymous downloaders. I don't upload music here, but I do it elsewhere (as Boom), and I often encounter the same kind of situation: many downloads and very few comments. But then I think about the few people who regularly tell me how they enjoyed (or didn't) this or that musical discovery, and I realize that they are all that really matters in the end. So I sort of stopped being bothered by etiquette-challenged downloaders (although I still wish they would learn better manners :)
As for Valverde piece, I was referring to the one piece I heard on a recording by the Argentinian quintet CEAMC. I still have it (alas only in 192kbs mp3) and return to it periodically for its otherworldly, haunting beauty. That CEAMC recording also has a chamber piece by Ghandini - again a very beautiful composition. That's why I was so excited about your upload (and many of your past uploads gave me much pleasure too... too many to mention!!!)
A word of gratitude need not always be so apparent to show one's appreciation. I, for one, believe that this forum can use less of "thanks this and thanks that" and more intelligent discussion about music. We're so caught up in sharing that we forget about why we're really here in the first place. Just my 2-cents.
A problem regarding discussion of the music that uploaders are kind enough to dedicate their time to sharing, is that there's so much of it, there's barely enough time to sit for a quiet moment and appreciate the music.
But, a discussion is always a good idea!
Thanks again!
ps. my OED upload garnered 2 comments for 1700 downloads. What can you do? :)
Thanks for uploading! I listened to the music of the different composers (some of them I had never heard of) but unfortunately I only like Part and Scelsi. Part is (together with Ustvolskaya) one of my favourite contemporary composers. At the moment I am trying to understand Scelsi (and Sciarrino), who IMHO is one of the underrated figures in 20th century music. I appreciate your work!
I sincerely appreciate your generosity.
This a very good CD. Do you happen to have other Schwartz records on mode?
