Earl Brown - Tracer (Chamber Works 1952-1999)
Featuring Christian Wolff with Ne(x)tworks Ensemble (2007)

Classical | DVDFab Image (ISO) | 4.85 GB

Brown belonged to a group of composers that today is referred to as the "The New York School" (the group active in New York in the 1950s that included Brown, John Cage, Morton Feldman, and Christian Wolff.) The works recorded on this disc represent several of Brown's compositional styles. At least one piece was selected from every decade of his career, from the 1950s to the 1990s. The ensemble size varies from one player to fourteen. Performers include Christian Wolff and vocalist Joan La Barbara, both of whom knew and worked with Brown for many years.

This is the first DVD of Earle Brown's music. All performances are captured with full video and features 36-minute video interview with Susan Sollins (Brown's wife and an expert on his music), Cornelius Dufallo (founder of the Ne(x)tworks ensemble and Brown's godson), and Micah Silver (former director of The Earle Brown Foundation) on Earle Brown's life and work. The interview, filmed in HD (high-definition) is presented in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Hi-resolution 24-bit 5.1 surround recording in DTS and Dolby Digital.

Holy mackerel, peach, you just earned yourself an extra packet of sauce!

At the same time, I must have trimmed at least 5 years from my life. I don't know how others do it, but I almost lost my mind trying to upload this one. Everything just had to go wrong at the wrong time. Anyway, I hope you reap the benefit from my labor (since I won't be touching any more DVDs) :)
Posted By: groaaar Date: 09 Aug 2009 05:24:10
Thanks for the upload. Ripping only the music tracks to stereo flac would be a huge time saver though.
Posted By: peachfuzz Date: 09 Aug 2009 05:40:23
Of course, I wouldn't have mind doing just that but from what I understand there are some serious die-hard fans of Christian Wolff. Don't you want to see Wolff in action?
Posted By: groaaar Date: 09 Aug 2009 06:06:23
Actually, since I have bought, watched, and rofled at Stockhausen's Helicopter String Quartet performed by the Arditti String Quartet, I have come to the conclusion that dvds weren't mandatory at all ;D

Does anyone else having problems with the rar files?
While unpacking I got a CRC error (winrar said at part 26). I downloaded this part again, then I used the repair option for ALL parts. But I always got the same result.
Posted By: paulree Date: 09 Aug 2009 13:24:13
I have the same problem with the unpacking that rowolf had.
Posted By: v4v Date: 09 Aug 2009 13:41:28
rowolf, confirmed, the same problem.
And WinRar repair option produces the same files as downloaded ones.

Hey folks, sorry for the trouble. So I take it you're not able to extract the ISO file? Can you copy/paste the exact error message(s)?

Before the files were uploaded, I did run a test on all 26 rar files and the result came back error-free. Unfortunately, I have since deleted those 26 files and, because we're dealing with such a huge size, downloading them just to see what might have gone wrong is out of question. I will however split the ISO as before and run the checksum and report it back to you.

Once again, I apologize for the obvious inconvenience but as you can imagine from my previous comment about having issues with the upload this is a double jeopardy for me.

as requested, copy-pasted error message (not very informative):
<QUOTE>! M:\Earl Brown-Tracer Chamber Works\peachfuzz_mode179-tracer.part26.rar: CRC failed in BROWN_TRACER_MODE179.iso. The file is corrupt
<QUOTE>

As a temporary solution I had decompressed iso-file with '7zip' and then extracted 'video_ts' folder from faulty iso-file. DVD structure is corrupted but it seems that all big vob files can be played. - It is highly interesting content, many thanks for it!

Hi peachfuzz,
first of all I want to thank you for all the effort. I appreciate most of your uploads and that you use the redundancy feature. Executing the repair function in the past I could save files which were slightly damaged. Today it failed. The WinRAR message after the file check was:

"!... \peachfuzz_mode179-tracer\peachfuzz_mode179-tracer.part26.rar: CRC failed in BROWN_TRACER_MODE179.iso. The file is corrupt"

I hope we can identify the corrupt part (which might be #26 but could be any other) to avoid to replace and download again all of them.

@ all

DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES YOU HAVE DOWNLOADED!!

I have ran the checksum and it appears that the filenames have gotten mixed up. For example, "part15.rar" was replaced for "part16.rar", etc. I am currently checking against the original to see which belongs to which. I will get back to you once the kink is ironed out. Thanks for your patience.

-----------------

UPDATE 1

The following files are okay: 1-6, 9, 17, 18, 20-26

I suggest you move these files to another folder for now while we work with the others.

-----------------

UPDATE 2

With the exception of file #7, all the other files are okay. You just need to rename them (as indicated within the parantheses). They're as follow:

IMPORTANT: Be sure you don't OVERWRITE the other files as you rename them. Here's a tip. As you change the name for part7 to part8, add "x" (eg. 7x) at the end until you rename part8 later.

NEW MD5

Now that you have downloaded the two missing files and hopefully renamed the rogue files, I suggest you run the MD5 again and match it against the following checksums (or download from http://rapidshare.com/files/265578672/peachfuzz.md5)

It's turn out more then well - after renaming files and downloading new part07.rar iso-file was extracted without errors. Many thanks for effective rescue operation!

Note.
You can abstain from downloading new part15.rar if u correctly renamed part14.rar to part15.rar, as peachfuzz indicated above
Posted By: rowolf Date: 09 Aug 2009 21:45:22
Thanks for your investigation, peachfuzz.
Following your instructions it was not necessary to download part15 again. Only part7 has to be relaoded. Now it is possible to extract the iso file w/o errors.

Im confused, the files are damaged?
I have to do all that peachfuzz says?
Posted By: craphead Date: 16 Feb 2011 01:13:54
'You can abstain from downloading new part15.rar' ? How do we know if we have the old one or the new one?

'or download from http://rapidshare.com/files/265578672/peachfuzz.md5' – it's gone.

'Now that you have downloaded the two missing files and hopefully renamed the rogue' – I can only see one missing file provided and that is no. 7 . Is there another?

Did all the renaming. Couldn't find the md5 file. Extract failed.
