Bach composed his "Concertos avec plusieurs instruments" (ie. 'Concertos with more instruments'), as known as 'Brandenburg Concertos' (this name is from music scientist and Philipp Spitta), for Markgrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg (1677-1734), the half-brother of Frederick I, King of Prussia. The markgrave resided in king's palace in Berlin, he maintained a separate court, also musicians too.
Bach, while he was in service of prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen, about prince's commission went to Berlin to buy a new harpsichord and met with markgrave. The markgrave commissioned Bach "to send some of his compositions". Two years later Bach realized his courtesy.

These concertos were composed earlier. Perhaps they were repertory pieces of Anhalt-Köthen court (the sources remembering about Prince Leopold's violin and viola virtuosity), and perhaps some movements were composed yet in Bach's Weimar service years.

'The Brandenburg Concertos and their Leipzig Traductions' is the title of this compilation. There are represented in four examples the variants of Brandenburg Concertos: an early version of Concerto No.1 (BWV 1046a), a late version of Concerto No.2 (BWV 1047a) and No.5 (BWV 1050a), and a traduction of a movement of Concerto No.2 into a cantata movement (Sinfonia BWV 174/1).

The digitalization made with home devices. I made it as soon as possible the best but I know, this is not a studio quality.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for my english) I remember I had this box in the earlys '80. I loved it, but I lost it when I was a student, in an university clasroom in Buenos Aires Argentina. I left it in a chair, and when I returned, a few minutes later, it was no more there: a friendly hand took it for him/herserlf. And of course I've imagined I would see it again. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH, it's a very beautiful version in a very beautiful recording.
