Composer Alvin Curran (born 13 December 1938 in Providence, Rhode Island) is the co-founder, with Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum, of Musica Elettronica Viva, and a former student of Elliott Carter. Curran’s music often makes use of electronics and environmental found sounds.

When Curran recorded Songs and Views of the Magnetic Garden, it was a fairly radical album. At the same time, it harked back to a simpler time in electronic music, when loops, echo, and feedback were the primary recording tools.

While this is a unique and original recording, it has definite echoes of the mid-'60s work of Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, and Steve Reich. Curran uses the available technology to manipulate his music and sounds, and the chants have overtone and harmonic singing qualities. This is a good disc and a fun disc and will appeal to fans of the aforementioned artists. ~ Allmusic

Very nice. Too bad I already have it in my possession. :)

I usually don't go out on a limb to recommend anything except my own (why of course), but this album should appeal to those who have a penchant for ambient/minimal music with an avantgarde twist.
