Katarzyna Mycka - Marimba Spiritual (1997)

At long last! I found an original album containing one of Ney Rosauro’s most famous pieces, his Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble. He’s extremely hard to get, this Brazilian composer who created such a great deal of attractive music for the instrument. Yes, low bitrate compressions of his albums can be found here and there, but I’ve never seen lossless versions.
Rosauro should be better known to the general public. I do not understand why it took me so long to discover him, considering the marimba is most definitely one of my favorite instruments. It is such a pleasure to listen to his music that it makes me wonder why libraries and cd shops aren’t flooded with his works. Perhaps in Brazil?
Many performers play his compositions, duly paying hommage to a man who knows how to make the instrument sound at its most appealing; and this without getting trivial.
The marimba: go to Evelyn Glennie for divine virtosity and daredevil experiments; go to Rosauro Ney for immediately attractive melodies; and of course I should add Keiko Abe....go to her if you have lost your god and are in need of a new one.

Katarzyna Mycka, then, is an elegant and playful virtuoso whose performance on this album might suggest the instrument is easy to master. I’m glad she didn’t forget to include Rosauro Ney in this compilation!

Thanks! Last year I happened to hear live Rosauro's Concerto and it was good. I did not know that composer at the time though and would love to listen to that piece again. It is nice to have it in lossless recording!

There's this beautiful piece on his album Rapsodia, I'm not even sure of its title: "Periods of Life: Lied" or something. It's a Magical Mystery Tour all on its own. How I would like to have that in lossless! My version is 160kbs, I think

Good music, I think. But unfortunately the file is 'temporarily unavailable'. This has been happening a bit with Megaupload recently. On Jdownloader it actually says File not found, which at first makes it looks like the link has been deleted, but if one tries again a few hours later usually it comes back again.

Come to think of it, I am not sure what marimba concerto it was, maybe another one, since it was for marimba and orchestra... Thanks for drawing attention to this composer.

It is probably the same piece. This was originally composed for orchestra and marimba. You can read that in the booklet as well. Later on, he made a new version for marimba and percussion ensemble.
