| “ | "It would be impossible to adequately describe the inherent haunting beauty of Pérotin's music, or to fully detail its far-reaching influence in latter-twelfth-century France." David Vernier, Amazon.com The Hilliard LIVE Series was originally produced by the BBC for lobby sale at Hilliard Ensemble concert events, and was not available commercially. This album was recorded live in concert in August 1996 at the chapel of Trinity College, Cambridge. Pérotin (fl. ca. 1200) was a European composer, believed to be French, who lived around the end of the twelfth and beginning of the thirteenth century. He was the most famous member of the Notre Dame school of polyphony. Pérotin was one of very few composers of his day whose name has been preserved, and can be reliably attached to individual compositions. The first Hilliard Ensemble disc on CORO.
