Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) is the composer who came closest of all Spanish composers to what is called the “Cante jondo” , the essence of flamenco and the supreme expression of the Andalusian musical spirit. His music is raw, overtly emotional but also exquisitely refined, without fashionable romantic embellishments, of superficial “couleur locale”.
This set brings together his most important orchestral music, the complete opera La Vida Breve, the ballet music of El amor brujo, the fascinating and seductive “7 popular Spanish folk songs”, Master Peter’s Puppet Show, the fascinating Harpsichord Concerto, and the symphonic poem Psyche.
Idiomatic performances by one of Latin-American best orchestras, the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, conducted by Eduardo Mata, a specialist in this repertoire.
