Not Louis Andriessen or Peter Schat, but Theo Loevendie is the Stravinsky of the lowlands. Yes, and perhaps the Miles Davis as well; Loevendie (b. 1930), clarinet player, started his musical career as a jazz musician. His LP, “The Theo Loevendie Three Stairs” received an Edison award in 1969. Shortly after, he became professor of composition at the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music and began to focus on the composing of concert music.
