Coldplay - X&Y (Special Dutch Edition Release - 2CD) [2006]

It's a sure thing that Coldplay will score BIG with this album. It follows perfectly in the huge footsteps of the multi-platinum "A Rush of Blood to the Head", almost as if the two albums had been recorded at the same time. After being so long in the making, it would have been nice to see one or two tracks with something new and completely different, but as it stands, the winning Coldplay formula is still working just fine, so why mess with a good thing? The lead off single, "Speed of Sound" is already so popular that the chorus of: "Birds go flying at the speed of sound To show you how it all began Birds came flying from the underground If you could see it then you'd understand" is already a familiar refrain, heard from the mouths of babes to geezers everywhere. However, "Speed of Sound" is in fact only one of the pulse accelerating power songs on the album, another most buzz-worthy track being "Talk" (my personal favorite), which borrows and adapts Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" into the catchy base for this powerful, soaring and swelling anthem. The songs start deceptively with that quiet murmuring falsetto vocal a la Chris Martin, and then build to unbelievable towering crescendos of guitars and drums. Other possible singles would be "Square One", "X & Y" and "The Hardest Part", although all the songs are good. The bonus track "Til Kingdom Come" is a nice folk song on acoustic guitar.
