| “ | Outside of Front Line Assembly, Delerium is perhaps Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber's most well known project in music. Delerium's music is quite the opposite of Front Line Assembly. While FLA can be categorized as industrial music with its harsh, abrasive beats and nihilistic lyrics, Delerium's music is far from harsh and abrasive and instead is filled with ethereal, lush, ambient melodies and gentle, haunting lyrics. Delerium has not always been the Delerium people know today. Back in the late '90s, Delerium was signed to Cleopatra Records, a well known gothic/industrial record label. Their music was more in the vein of Brian Eno. The music was a mix of darkwave and ambient. No vocals were used. In the past couple of years, Delerium released a couple of compilations of their early years on Cleopatra Records. Their latest compilation is a best of dating back to "Semantic Spaces". On "The Best of Delerium" there is two previously unreleased tracks "Paris" featuring the delicate vocals of Aude and "You & I" with the lovely Zoe Johnston who provides vocals. Those songs alone are worth buying this cd. "Paris" is my favorite of the two songs. Pachebel's signature song "Canon" is sampled. Aude (who has provided vocals for Delerium on their "Poem" cd) sings in French through out the entire song. Although I do not understand a word what she is saying, the melodies and her delicate vocals makes up for my lack of knowledge of the French language. "You & I" is just as good as "Paris". Zoe Johnston's beautiful voice warms my soul. Asides from the two new tracks, the remaining songs are all singles. I have to admit that I am rather tired of the song "Silence". I have heard that song one too many times on a lot of chill out compilations. I found the remix to be unnecessary. I personally didn't think the Above & Beyond 21st Century remix sounded any more different than say DJ Tiesto's remix. I still like the song but I just feel that I had heard the song too much.I loved the Buddah Radio edit version of "Truly". I thought that version is much better than the original version found on Delerium's last studio album "Chimera". The remix picks up the tempo and is a dance song instead of a ballad. I thought "The Best of" is a good compilation of Delerium's music from the past five years. I look forward to their next chapter in their career.
