As Stuart Nicholson, wrote in the BBC Music magazine: “... Selected by the artists themselves, this series is of enormous importance in revealing the breadth of each artist’s work, as much for the converted as the unconverted looking for a window into the remarkable ECM catalogue.”

About 2 years ago a friend introduced me to Jan Garbarek. I have found him to be rather inaccessable even to me, a music omnivore. I haven't d'loaded the Garbarek you have here (yet), too many other nice goodies. I have no trouble with "straight" jazz like John Coletrain, Dizzy Gillespie, even Omar Sosa, whom I admire greatly, not to mention Al diMiola and guys in his gendre, broad as it can be.
Do you have .... or can you recommend any Garbarek for beginners as I'd really like to be able to find what he's on about. Similar story with John Surman although I have heard some of his that's nice.
Thank you for these, much appreciated as it assists my journey of musical exploration which for the most part is nothing short of fricken amazing.

My friend is into really avant guarde music, some of Jan Garbarek fits this catergory ... I'll check out rarum Garbarek.

I absolutely adored Carla Bley, hadn't heard her before.
