Reviews:
"This disc, which is recorded in ideal sound, is among the best, and because of its unique musical approach to these troubadour songs becomes an essential acquisition for all serious early-music fans who want to wander over to the secular side of Alfonso's fascinating world. 10/10"
ClassicsToday.com

"Never satisfied to perform scholarly transcriptions of old music on rebuilt instruments, Dufay Collective literally “jam” on the music, bringing out the essence of a working thirteenth century musician’s routines... Music for Alfonso the Wise is a “five-star” effort all the way around and back."
All Music Guide

"Hugely worthwhile."
The Guardian Newspaper

"An early-music must."
CLASSICAL CD OF THE WEEK - The Observer Newspaper

"This cycle is fascinating music, beautifully realized. The Dufay Collective fully lives up to their advance billing. This is a marvelous recording, displaying genuine sensitivity to the material and the highest caliber of musicianship. It is familiar, exotic, absorbing and sometimes tremendously affecting."
GreenManReview.com

"Since 1987, this early music ensemble has brought a unique perspective to medieval and renaissance music. I've heard other collections of the "Cantigas", but never one that brought so much life to the music. For a refreshing take on this venerable music, picking up a copy of MUSIC FOR ALFONSO THE WISE is a smart choice."

While England had their Tallis, the French had their Dufay. We, on the other hand, hava Jozzie121, and aren't we glad. ;)

As always, nice work!

Great music post. It would be better with covers included. Tks

@ Tajide... the covers AND booklet are included as a separate download in the folder. Some want them, others don't. I put them separately for this motive.
Posted By: tajide Date: 15 Feb 2007 12:53:51
Well, now I saw that covers were included. Excuse my observation.

@ Tajide...
No problem, my friend. I often try hard to include full covers whenever that is possible. Covers for these genres are even less frequent and harder to come by. I do understand your asking for covers yet, I assure you, some generously share what they have found on the net. So, sometimes, you will find that covers are not always included.

Thanks jozzie121 for this great share. From the technical point of view I find this a superb recording, an album wich could even be used for testing your audio equipment, especially loudspeakers. That's ofcourse my opinion.

This release is not an original APE rip. It has ben converted to ape from some other lossy format. The EAC Spectrum Analyzer shows an almost total absence of frequencies above 18Khz. Covers and booklet are the same as those found in this eD2k link: ed2k://|file|[cantigas]%20Music%20for%20Alfonso%20The%20Wise%20(Dufay%20Collective)%20mpc.xtreme%20-%20BOOKLET.rar|124340506|FC08C5C590CFEF851E504C89A78BBBBE|/
With TAU you can see the files are MPEG.

@ jozzie121,

Thanks for this posting. I intended to download the APE version, but I am confused with boticario's statement. Could you please comment on this?
Posted By: wolfgang Date: 19 Feb 2007 10:29:23
Strange, I am having problems playing these pieces with Cog in my Mac. Takes a long time to start and sound is distorted. Is it related somehow to boticario's statement? Anyone with a Mac experienced similar problems? Are these APEs different in some way from other APE postings?

Thank you for the great release.
What is the correct password? The one above does not work.
Posted By: Jozzie121 Date: 23 Feb 2007 12:14:11
Hello! I am sure the password is jozzie121 - I do not use any other. Besides, when you get password error there are two things which could be the cause. The first could be that you are writing jozzie with a capital J - it has to be exactly jozzie121. Otherwise it could be a corrupt download. In that case, if you use WinRAR 3.51 or better, try repairing the archive and then try extracting the file once more. The archives have a 3% recovery record on purpose so that they can be repaired. If this does not work, then the problem can only be resolved by downloading the files again. See if you can resolve the problem. I still have the archives on my hard disk and they extract fine with the password jozzie121. Besides, many have downloaded these files already and did not have problems with the password otherwise, I am sure, I would have had a message from someone before yours.

@ Boticario - I have had these files on disk as ape files for ages, I did not convert them myself. I don't do that at all. Normally when I extract into ape, I extract straight from my own disks. Probably they were like that at source already, I have no idea. These were found on KaZaa way back, I am talking about a year or so ago. I have simply shared what I had. To be honest with you, I did not check beforehand whether they have been ripped to lossy and then to ape - considering that when I downloaded them I concluded that if the extension is APE, then it is ape without asking too many questions. I am sorry if you are not satisfied with this download - some things go beyond my control.
