Allmusic.com rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars Review!

More pop-oriented than any of their previous work, the sound of The Man-Machine -- in particular among Kraftwerk's oeuvre -- had a tremendous impact on the cold, robotic synth pop of artists like Gary Numan, as well as Britain's later new romantic movement.
- Steve Huey/AMG

The Man-Machine is the seventh studio album by Kraftwerk, released in 1978. It was released in German as Die Mensch-Maschine. It contains the song "The Model" which was a #1 single in the UK in 1982.

This was the first Kraftwerk album to see Karl Bartos co-credited with song-writing along with Hütter & Schneider. Emil Schult co-wrote the lyrics for "The Model".

Musically, it builds on Trans-Europe Express. The initial recording had been made at Kraftwerk's own Kling Klang studio, but further work was done at nearby Studio Rudas, where Detroit sound engineer Leanard Jackson of Whitfield Records, who had worked on Rose Royce's second album the previous year, was hired to work on the final sound-mix.

The cover design imitates the graphic style of the 1930s modernist movement, particularly that of the designer/architect El Lissitzky, whose inspiration is acknowledged in the album credits. The rear cover of the album is actually an adaptation one of his geometric page designs for a children's book, From Two Quadrants (specifically, the upper right quarter of the page captioned "And on the Black was established Red Clearly").

The album was voted #96 on Q magazine's List of 100 Greatest Albums and #92 on Pitchfork Media's Top 100 Albums of the 1970s.

Thank you very much for this fine rip! I hope some day someone will do great rips of the first four Organisation/Kraftwerk albums which were released before "Autobahn" and for some strange reason never were included into the catalogue...

@ SteveJobs

Macintosh users can use RARMe to do RAR recovery http://www.armelline.com/RarMe.html. Follow the software installation instructions carefully or it will not work. RARMe is a GUI front end to the command line utility supplied by the WinRAR people. Once installed it is easy to use. Look for the fixed files in your Home directory after processing. You can PM me if you get stuck.

Actually it is part 3 that is damaged. Track B2 - Neonlicht.flac spans between part 3 and 4. RARMe fixed the archive.

Thanks a lot Dr. Robert for pointing me to RarMe! With your help I could repair kraft_dmm_2496.part3.rar and now extraction worked fine!

@devener: Think you typed the password wrong... :)
Posted By: Dr. Robert Date: 08 Jan 2010 21:45:23
@jonchapple

The problem with WinRAR is it throws up "(wrong password ?)" with any error message it gives. If the RAR needs fixing it says "(wrong password ?)". If a file name is too long it says "(wrong password ?)". I make my RAR's on a Macintosh, when I forget and use an illegal Windows character like an extra space or slash (/) it says "(wrong password ?)".

And at first glance it appears to be part 4's problem but it is with Part 3 as a song starts in part 3 and ends in part 4. Run the repair function of WinRAR and fix part 3. Part 4 is perfectly fine.

Part 3 needs to be repaired. I have uploaded a fixed version but I want to download it to confirm it is 100% good for those folks with limited computer skills.

THANK YOU Aksman and THANK YOU DR. Robert! I am one of those LCS guys as I gave up on that RarMe thing after countless failed attempts to use it.
I can't wait to compare the vinyl to my CD rip. Nothing but love.

Hello Aksman - first of all, thanks for all your time in producing these amazing rips - you are Da Man! There seems to be a CRC issue with the 24/96 version - would you be able to correct this for us. Also, how does one go about sending a donation for all your hard work?! Thanks!
