| “ | Compilation album with a selection of 20 of the best rumbas recorded between 1971 and 1991 by this famous group Huelva (Spain). The group of 'Los Marismeños' has created a self-image in the interpretation of popular flamenco styles,-in which they dared innovate by incorporating innovative musical instruments. And though the repertoire is broad in topics and styles this CD includes only flamenco rumbas. | ” |
| “ | A strikingly gifted multi-instrumentalist with an intuitive understanding of American roots music styles and a sly sense of humor, David Bromberg has earned a following for his many solo recordings and has served as a sideman and collaborator with some of the most respected artists in his field. David Bromberg was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1945, and spent most of his childhood in Tarrytown, New York. As a teenager, Bromberg got hooked on rock & roll and began exploring the blues, folk, and country artists that informed early rock, such as Pete Seeger, Reverend Gary Davis, Muddy Waters, Flatt & Scruggs, and Bill Monroe. | ” |
| “ | "Fishmoon" is a score 'for the inner-mind' of such intensity that the pictures that are not here long ago remain blurry but transcendent and color snapshots. The only thing flickers is the almost tangible heat. Guitarist Axel Heilhecker worked on projects like Holo Syndrome, Sunya Beat, Phonoroid and collaborated with musicians of Ash Ra Tempel. Fishmoon is his first solo album, although on a few tracks he gets a helping hand from Steve Baltes (Sunya Beat, Ashra), producer/composer Helmut Zerlett and Bertil Mark. Fishmoon is a fully instrumental album, centered around Axel's guitar play, which is accompanied by bass, keyboards and percussion. | ” |
| “ | The most jazz-oriented of the elderly musicians in the Buena Vista Social Club, pianist Ruben Gonzalez was 77 at the time of this CD, his debut as a leader. Although he did not even own his own piano at the time, he plays brilliantly, performing a variety of traditional melodies plus two originals, often quoting other songs and really stretching himself. His chord voicings are distinctive and very inviting, his control of the piano is quite impressive, and the music sings its heart out. The CD was recorded spontaneously over a two-day period with Gonzalez mostly being the lead voice, assisted by trumpeter Manuel Mirabal (who has some fine solos), bassist Orlando "Cachaito" Lopez, several percussionists, and occasionally three background singers. This set is impossible not to love. | ” |
