Not being a specialist in world music, I had no idea about the legend that was griot singer Siramori Diabate from Mali; but when friends of mine requested for the album, I began to read about her, realized she was "the real stuff", and that this is an extremely rare recording.
When I got it from the library, I anxiously watched the surface of the cd. Hardly had I seen a cd that appeared thus damaged. Scratches, cuts, pockmarks, I had difficulty to imagine this hard suffering little disc could be ripped at all.
Well, the spirit of Siramori Diabate must have guarded the ripping process, for EAC performed miracles here. It is utterly amazing: you will hear no other imperfections than those that are in the recording itself (for a major part, this was originally recorded with a cassette tape in Diabate’s own house).
The log below shows some errors then, but don’t worry. You won’t hear them. I am glad I managed to make a copy of this authentic document before it is too late and the poor disc gives up.
