Tsuumi Sound system is an energetic eight-piece musical band from Finland.
Combine the various genres of Finnish folk music with European folk influences, a taste of acoustic jazz, tango and samba, a little Balkan edge, and you have a unique mixture dangerously addictive.
Diversity is an essential characteristic of the band, along with wellcrafted compositions, innovative instrumentation and intense live performances. The players, who all share a wide array of influences, make the music interesting, brilliant and organic.
Founded in the late 1990s, Tsuumi Sound System was initially an integral part of the Tsuumi Dance Company. Their biggest show off together was at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with their intermission act in the semifinals which was broadcasted internationally. Today, the musicians tour internationally on their own.
With Hotas (Aito Records, 2007), the group's fifth album, the eight-piece band provides a wealth of musical riches, and producer Roger Tallroth (Vasen) has brought a truly masterful touch to the sound.
The highly-regarded World Music magazine Songlines has chosen Hotas as their Top of the World album of the month in January 2008.
The German magazine In Music also awarded Hotas the perfect rating of five stars.
In Germany Hotas has been a nominee for the country' s music critics award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik) for the first quarter of 2008 in the category Folk & Folklore.
In Finland, the album was nominated for the 2008 Teosto award (The Finnish Composers&Copyright Society).
Tsuumi Sound System won the 2009 Just Plain Folks Award for best jazz instrumental song ("Casino" on Hotas album.)
Both delicacy and energy are at the appointment and bring the listener on a new musical journey full of emotions and deep feelings.
