Horace Andy (born Horace Hinds, 19 February 1951 in Kingston, Jamaica), is a legendary roots reggae singer, notable for such tracks as "Government Land", "You Are My Angel", "Skylarking" and a version of "Ain't No Sunshine". The singer made his earliest recordings in the late 1960s, at Coxsone Dodd's Studio One. Known for his distinctive falsetto vocal style, he sang on many classic productions for reggae producers, including Phil Pratt, King Tubby, Bullwackie, Bunny 'Striker' Lee and Prince Jammy. He found a new generation of fans in the 1990s, thanks to his work with trip hop pioneers Massive Attack, continued to record new music in the late 1990s and at the beginning of the new millennium, with an album called "Living in the Flood" released in 1999 on Massive Attack's Melankolic record label, as well as productions for Ariwa, Jah Shaka and Bunny Gemini, and was also featured on the world music project 1 Giant Leap.

Horace Andy went back into the studio (Harry J's) with none other than the riddim twins Sly & Robbie and the Taxi Gang. The result is a splendid album featuring some of Andy's classics and some new tunes. Fire A Go Burn is the first track, the recognisable voice of Horace Andy with his haunting vocals still makes a deep impression. Holy Mount Zion is nicely redone and sees Sly in top form (the double drumming style of the mid 70s Channel One releases) as he displays his skills as a drummer. It's a joy to spin that song over and over again!

I'm Alive has a true Sly & Robbie sound -- bringing back memories of their days with Black Uhuru -- and is a shining combination with Andy. Tune inna extended mix! The bongo drums sound on the beginning of the next tune Zion Gates... yet another classic with a new Sly & Robbie turn, without losing its classic touch. Excellent reworking! The title track Livin' It Up is a positive song about live, while One Love is one of the best lovers tunes on the album.

More lovers niceness brings True Love on which Andy's voice comes out strong. This also goes for Sharing The Love and Bless You, the latter being one of his biggest hits in the 1970s. Enriched with a fantastic arrangement Skylarking stays a BIG tune. King Of Kings, a praising tune with sweet Sly & Robbie influences, is one of highlights here. Rastafari Prophesy is an other song of praises, and True Rastaman a song about the Rastafarian way of life. After that the listener is treated to the heavy dub version of I'm Alive. A great version from the Taxi Gang, would have been a real joy if the album had featured some more.

The accompanying DVD carries more than an hour footage of the entire recording sessions, beautifully shot by J.F. Julian. There's even a Gregory Isaacs recording session to watch.

Roots Reggae at its best!
